You see, I have 3 kids: A 14 year old, a 4 year old, and a 3 year old. Obviously, with such a large age difference between my teen and my preschoolers, they're not always on the same page when it comes to entertainment. My oldest doesn't want to play "baby games" and the little ones can't keep up with games meant for teens and adults. So on the rare occasion that I come across a game that we can all play happily, I get pretty excited. I am all about quality family time, and I love seeing all 3 kids do things together. Of course one game that tends to be a crowd-pleaser is Monopoly. I mean, come on....Who doesn't love Monopoly?! I am a huge fan. Unless, of course, I am losing. Yep. This mama doesn't take losses too well. Losing to the kiddos doesn't bruise my ego too badly, though. In fact, I love seeing them triumph! Traditional Monopoly games are great for myself, my husband and my teen. But the little ones can't quite keep up. It's a bit too complex for them right now. Thankfully, Monopoly Junior is the perfect compromise! This game states it's for ages 5+, but my 3 and 4 year olds can play pretty well with some adult guidance. Pass Go, take a Chance card, and you might just build the property of your dreams…or you might end up in Jail! Whatever happens, it's fun all the way to the top! And now kids can join in the excitement with the fast and fun Monopoly Junior game. This game includes the following components: Gameboard, 4 tokens, 20 chance cards, 48 sold signs, 90 banknotes, 4 character cards, and 1 die. We received a vibrant, cheerful version of this fun family favorite to check out for ourselves. This is a bit different than previous versions of Monopoly Junior. Don't worry. Change can be good. And in this case, it definitely is! One of my favorite parts of this game are the tokens. Rather than being metallic or non-descript plastic pieces, these pieces are very detailed, and almost cartoonish in nature, making them perfect for younger players. There is a frisky kitty, a rugged boat, a playful pup, and a speedy automobile. (I always choose the cat since I am definitely a crazy cat lady!) Rather than having large denominations of money, Monopoly Junior only has $1 bills. This is great, since it's easier for little ones to count and distribute their money. Yes, we use family game night to help teach things that our kids will need to know as they enter school. Hey, every activity can have educational value, right? There are also fun Chance cards. These cards are much like those in other Monopoly versions, but geared more towards children. They have cheerful characters and easy to follow instructions. I was absolutely delighted to see that my younger children were able to catch on quickly to the premise of this game. They had a blast counting their money, buying up properties, and of course collecting rent from unsuspecting siblings. The only time we had any problem is when Xander had to go to jail. He started crying and said "But Mommy, I'm just a good boy!" Once we explained to him that he's not really going to jail, his mood improved greatly. And yes, we ended up letting him win. It stinks being the littlest sometimes, so this was a victory he was quite proud of! Overall, we love incorporating Monopoly Junior into our family activities. Not only does this fun game help teach my kids strategy, basic math and following directions, it also helps my kids to become good sports. Oh, and the fact that my teen wants to play with the little ones and doesn't complain or roll his eyes is a major added bonus, too. How to Connect :
