***Disclosure: I received an all-expense paid trip to Hollywood to cover various Disney ABC TV Events. All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** Okay, so normally I wouldn't even watch a show like ABC's hit series, "Mistresses". I assumed it would be a late night soap opera, much like the ones that my mother used to watch when I was a kid. I remember we had to be super quiet when her shows were on, and it was BOOOORING, So I don't watch soaps. Ever. At all. I think they're cheesy, and often very, very slow. One episode seems to drag on forever, and with 2 preschoolers to chase around during the day, I just don't have time for all that. That being said, after seeing the entire first season and the 2nd season premiere of "Mistresses", I am more than a little hooked. Sure, it's got the sex, lies, adultery, and drama you'd expect to find in a soap. However, it's fast-paced, juicy, and has got a great storyline and really focuses on the friendships between the characters, Savi, Karen, April, and Joss. It also has realistic consequences for actions. For example, when Savi cheated on Harry with Dom and became pregnant, there was true anguish shown. Her marriage suffered. You could just see the heartbreak in Harry's eyes. This show doesn't glamorize cheating in the way a typical soap-style show would. (And I am not an advocate of cheating, so I appreciate a more realistic depiction of what happens when people have extramarital affairs.) While in the LA area, we headed to Culver City to visit the set of "Mistresses". We got to chat with costume designer Roemehl Hawkins, who actually gets much of her inspiration from fashion blogs, of all things! (That little tidbit of info made this blogger quite happy!) She also gave us a lot of insight into how complicated picking out the actresses' wardrobes really is. What color is the "it color" this season? Which silhouette will complement each lady's body type perfectly. And there's also the visual aspect of the evolving characters. For example, Savi is much, much different in season 2 than she was in season 1. (I am not going to give away any spoilers here, but all I can say is WOW....You are NOT going to want to miss the season 2 premiere!) We also got to visit the set for April's boutique, Maison Sur Mer. I love the scenes that take place in this shop. It seems I am always drooling over the fabulous inventory, and I have even gotten some decor ideas that I plan on implementing in my own home. I absolutely fell in love with the artsy, eclectic feel to this shop. There were colorful, decorative accents and gorgeous shabby chic pieces everywhere. If this were a real store, I would definitely be a customer. Sadly, the lighting conditions were not ideal during our set visit, so a lot of my photos didn't come out very well. If you'd like to see April's amazing sense of style, be sure to tune in to "Mistresses". We also got quite the surprise while touring various set locations at ABC Studios. In walked none other than the fabulous Jason George himself! He plays Dom, the guy that Savi cheats on Harry with. Since I am an advocate of faithful marriages, I really didn't like Dom. Jason George, on the other hand, was wonderful. He was so friendly and down to Earth, and he was more than happy to answer all the questions we could throw at him. We found out that he's the father of twins, which is really cool, and he seems to be over the moon for his wife. Looks like Jason is a nicer guy than the character he portrays! Now Jason did talk to us about what may be coming up in season 2. There are some new twists and turns coming that no one saw coming. (No spoilers! Watch the premiere tonight at 10:00PM EST on ABC!) He was even nice enough to take pictures with us! Here I am with Jason and Lisa from Sweetie's Freebies. Pretty cool, right? Well, we didn't get as lucky as Choya over at Real Frugal Divas. You see, Choya is absolutely and hopelessly in love with Jason, and she made it a point to tweet him and let him know....several times. That got his attention, and he was ready for her. He gave her the biggest, tightest hug ever, and then planted a huge kiss on her cheek. You should have seen her blush and giggle. He really made her day. Or year. Or lifetime. (She likes him A LOT.) See. I told you Jason George is a great guy. After we left the studio lot, we headed into a posh residential area to an on-location set where we met Jes Macallan who plays Joss as well as THE Justin Hartley, himself! Justin is joining "Mistresses" for season 2, and will be playing a love interest named Scott. Look for more about my set visit with Jes and Justin next week. In the meantime, make sure to tune in to ABC TONIGHT, June 2, at 10:00PM EST for the season 2 premiere of "Mistresses". You're not going to want to miss this! If you're a fan and were left hanging on the edge of your seat at the end of season 1, you MUST see this premiere. I was in shock. This storyline is taking some new and unexpected turns, that's for sure!
