Making Our Haunted House Look the Part On A Budget With Oriental Trading Company #Sponsored10/8/2015 ***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my post. All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.***
Halloween is approaching, and we couldn't be more excited. Our costumes this year? Well, they're a bit weird.....Kyle is being a Roman God, Xander is being a fire-breathing dragon, and Dan and Sophie? Well, that's where the strangeness comes in. Dan is wearing an Anonymous Guy Fawkes mask and a black shirt that says: "Ignore the human costume. I'm really Bernie Sanders." Sophie, who is very much a Daddy's girl, is wearing her fancy Cinderella wedding dress with a gold Guy Fawkes mask. I will be the somewhat embarrassed mom, dressed in normal clothing, trailing behind my kooky bunch.
Anyway, one thing we love about Halloween is decorating! We live in a true-blue haunted house, so of course we have to make it look super-spooky! (Yes, really. My home is definitely very haunted. I blogged about our ghostly residents HERE. We also have EVP recordings that are chilling.)
This year, we decided to partner with Oriental Trading Company to make our front yard the spookiest yard on the block! Yes, I just said Oriental Trading Company. While this brand is best known for their party favors and supplies, they also have some pretty awesome decor items as well!
We chose a few creepy foam headstones, some undead characters to haunt them, and even some faux spiderwebs to give our shrubbery a creepy makeover.
Our items arrived quickly, and were very well-packaged. The headstones are very lightweight foam that has been painted to look like stone. They do include anchors so they don't blow away during inclement weather. I was actually very impressed by how great these look. They are not expensive, but the quality is definitely there.
We got to work decorating our yard right away. It was a family affair! Dan made sure the tombstones were securely anchored into the ground, and the kids helped to make sure the bushes were well-covered in sticky spiderwebs.
After about an hour in the yard, we had a total and complete Halloween transformation. Our haunted house actually looks....well....haunted. The only thing scarier looking would be my creepy, unfinished basement. No pics, though, because I refuse to step foot down there. We bought our home almost 4 years ago, and I have been in my basement a total of 4 times, once when we first looked at the house, and then 3 times for Tornado warnings. Otherwise, I steer clear.
Anyway, our yard is now just about as creepy as our basement, thanks to the folks at Oriental Trading Company!
