Mother's Day is on Sunday, May 10th this year. Just a few short weeks away! What are your plans for Mom's big day? Will you be getting breakfast in bed? A nice lunch or dinner out? Maybe someone will be snatching up the kiddos so you can enjoy a day full of blissful silence. We will be going to dinner, and I will be praying that my kids, Xander especially, know how to behave themselves. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyway, I know that right now, a lot of folks are looking for ways to make the Moms in their lives feel as special and loved as they are. One great way to celebrate Mom is to give her some simply gorgeous roses from PassionRoses. These folks know their roses, and they grow several stunning varieties right at their very own farm in Colombia. These roses are lovingly grown by expert gardeners, and each rose is carefully hand-picked and inspected for quality. PassionRoses are so wonderful, they have even been named the Official Rose of the Rose Bowl and of Miss America.
PassionRoses is an online florist, and their roses are delivered directly to your door. I was recently gifted 100 roses from the generous folks at PassionRoses. I received detailed tracking info right away, so I was able to track my flowers' journey all the way from Colombia, South America, to my home in the Cleveland, Ohio suburbs. The shipping was lightning fast, since they overnight ship their roses from Colombia to the United States.
My roses arrived this afternoon, and were very well packaged. I mean, VERY well packaged. I actually thought I had only received around 50 stems, since they were packed together so efficiently. It wasn't until I took them out of their bundles that I was able to see just how many roses were present. I am incredibly impressed by the way these super-fresh flowers were packaged. Seriously, whoever is in charge of bundling outgoing orders for shipping needs a raise. They have some serious skills. While I had the option of keeping all 100 blooms for myself, I chose not to. It was tempting, though. Honestly, how often does a gal get 100 long-stem roses? For me, it never happens. This is a total first. But then I got to thinking.....I am very blessed. I have 3 amazing kids, a house and car that are paid for, and a husband who treats me well and is the best Daddy ever. I also have a job that I adore, which also allows me to be home with my children. This Mother's Day, I have a lot to be thankful for, since I have been so blessed. Life isn't perfect, of course, but it's pretty darn good. While I am out having a great day with my family, I know there are some Moms who aren't so lucky. They might have an ill child who spends tons of time in the hospital, fighting for their life. Or maybe they are elderly, living in a retirement home, and their children and grandchildren cannot visit as often as they'd like. These Moms deserve an extra smile this Mother's Day, so I wanted to share the gift of these roses with them. So rather than keep every single gorgeous bloom that was sent to me, I decided I would donate them to Moms that may not have the most joyous of Mother's Days. I decided to separate these babies into tons of 6-rose Mini-Bouquets and drop them off at a retirement home as well as at one of our local hospitals. I hope that I am able to brighten someone's day and let them know that they are being thought of this Mother's Day.
The kids helped me separate these roses into several bouquets. As you can see, the roses from PassionRoses are long-stemmed and very vibrant and hardy. I received 4 different colors: Pink, Orange, Yellow, and White. These colors were very bright, and definitely came from well-tended gardens. You can tell looking at these roses that they were grown and handled with great care.
After we separated the roses into bouquets of 6, we stuck some into the fridge for safekeeping and headed across the street with the rest. Right across from our house is a retirement home and rehab facility, and I know they have a lot of elderly patients who would appreciate a smile for Mother's Day, even if we are a bit early.
The kids were very excited to be donating these flowers to patients and residents of this facility. Sophie just beamed when she told the woman at the front desk that we were here with beautiful flowers to make lots of people happy. Hearing her say that just melted my heart. One of the things I want more than anything in this world is for my children to be kind, compassionate, giving human beings. When we have the opportunity to give or help others, we jump at the chance.
Tomorrow, provided I can get ahold of the visitor coordinator at the hospital, we will be dropping off there, too. I will try and grab photos of that donation as well.
While I donated the vast majority of these gorgeous flowers to others, I did keep a few for myself. Aren't they stunning? These roses are nice and fragrant, and I cannot wait to see them in all their glory once they are in full bloom.
So this year, we are making Mother's Day the BEST EVER by remembering those Moms who might be lonely, or going through tough health challenges either themselves or with their child. It just feels so good to bless someone else with something beautiful, especially when it's unexpected and relatively anonymous.

We will probably do what we always do. Nothing. The way my we see it, I'm my husbands wife, not his mother.

I'll be sending a card and flowers to my Mom's best friend and calling her. She lost her only son this year and is so very sad. This will be a hard day for her. For me as well as this will be my first mother's day without my mom :(

Two dozen roses would be nice. I love the colors. Red is always nice, but for a change, pink and yellow are pretty.

I'll be late to Mother's Day dinner with my Mother at my Aunt's house again this year. I know that doesn't sound special, but its because its my husband and my's normal shift helping to serve food to the homeless and hungry in our area. As I like to remind my Mother, I'm late because I'm the woman you raised, doing what you taught me was important.
