Itti Bitti Tutto One Size Cloth Diaper Review

I have been drooling over itti bitti's one size diaper, the tutto, for quite some time now. I have read about a zillion reviews of them, and have heard some pretty amazing things. For one, they're ridiculously soft. Plus, they will fit almost all babies from birth to potty-training. Add to that a ton of fun colors and quality construction, and you've got the makings of one fantastic diaper!

I have reviewed a ton of diapers. I mean dozens and dozens here...But for some reason, the most coveted, the itti bitti tutto, had eluded me. Until now, that is!

Recently I received this fabulous diaper to review. That's a story in itself, as it accidentally got delivered to a neighbor's home who mistakenly thought I was the now deceased former owner of my home. To make a long story short, I finally got my hands on the diaper, and I couldn't wait to see if it lived up to all of the hype!

Here are the features of the tutto:

  • One-size design fits birth to potty training, approximately 7-44 lbs.
  • Plush minky outer lined with PUL for a waterproof diaper (no cover required)
  • Suedecloth inner
  • Four rise settings adjust the size of the diaper
  • Snap closures (one row of waist snaps)
  • Crossover waist snap settings for small waists
  • Extra hip snaps for smaller settings, cleverly hidden behind a suedecloth flap when not in use
  • Includes 2 different snap-on soakers (bamboo/cotton topped with suedecloth) and 1 bamboo/cotton doubler
  • A complete internal gusset called the “poo fence” keeps everything in from all directions.

The first thing I want to point about about the diaper is that it is in fact incredibly soft. The outer portion of the diaper is made from a very luxurious minky fabric. It's velvety and very soft to the touch. My 2 year old, Sophie, actually loves rubbing the diaper all over her face! (When it's clean, of course!

We received an itti bitti tutto in a gorgeous shade of turquoise, which is beautifully gender neutral. This, too, is a must in my home since I have both a girl and a boy in diapers.

The tutto has a large number of snaps to customize the size in both the waist and the rise. My kids are both bigger, so we don't need to snap down the rise settings at all. These settings would have been wonderful when they were infants, though! This diaper really does grow with a child!
Picture
Here is a photo of one of the smallest settings. Pretty tiny, if I do say so myself! I love that it has cross-over snaps for scrawnier babies! There are even extra, hidden hip snaps, but I will get to those in a minute.
Picture
Here's more about the hidden hip snap I mentioned. There are 2 of them, one on each side, and they can be hidden by a flap of suedecloth when not in use. This is great for the smallest of babies, since it will help prevent sagging and wing droop!
Picture
Here's the back of the diaper. The waistband is a soft, gentle elastic and doesn't leave red marks on baby's skin.
Picture
The tutto comes with not one, not two, but THREE inserts! Each diaper comes with three soaker pads, so you can customize the absorbency to suit your baby. PLUS bitti tutto is brilliantly economical, as you can buy extra soaker pads separately (in the original super absorbent bamboo, or quick dry microfibre) and re-use the outer shell!

The inserts snap into the shell with color coded snaps. It may look confusing and complicated at first glance, but it's actually quite simple. The red snaps match up with the other red snaps, and so on and so forth. As long as you're not color blind, you can easily figure out this system.

Another great things about the tutto is the poo fence. It has double leg gussets which keep messes in the diaper where they belong rather than creeping down legs, onto clothing, and worse. My son, Xander, is affectionately referred to as the "Poop Master". This kid poops more than anyone I've ever seen, and they're always pretty dangerous. The poo fence is a God-send! I wish more brands had this feature!

Now that I've shown you all of the great features of the itti bitti tutto, it's time to tell you how it held up to my kids! I tested this diaper on both children both during the day as well as overnight.
Picture
With Xander, we had no problems whatsoever. It was easy to find the perfect fit for him, and I love that I can customize the soakers. Since he's a boy, he tends to wet in the front of his diaper, so I doubled up accordingly.

During the day, the tutto held up very well, even during massive blowouts. The poo fence definitely lives up to its name, and we didn't experience any toxic waste seepage.

Overnight, the tutto fared equally well. Xander woke up dry to the touch, even though his diaper was absolutely soaked on the inside.

Sophie was a different story, unfortunately. We had a more difficult time finding a good size setting for her. This diaper is a bit more snug in the hip area than she likes, and she complained that it wasn't very comfortable. (In toddler speak, of course.) While the diaper does in fact fit her, she doesn't have too much room to grow in it. That being said, she is almost 3 and is already in the process of potty training. 6 months to a year ago, I think this would have been wonderful on her.

Aside from the slight issues with fit, the diaper held up very well on Sophie, both during the day as well as overnight. Sophie is a heavy wetter, so I used all of the soakers. She remained dry to the touch, even though in the morning her diaper had to weigh a good 5lbs.

I did notice that she had some slight redness in the hip area. This can be attributed to the snug fit on her.

The tutto held up well against messes, but we did experience some fit issues with my soon to be 3 year old. That being said, the many, many sizing options makes this a wonderful choice from birth on up.

The only thing that wasn't too terribly pleasant was using the diaper sprayer on the tutto. Since the inserts have so many folds and crevices for poop to hide in, spraying them off was definitely a chore. They did come very clean in the wash after a good spraying, though.

Overall, I really like the itti bitti tutto. It's a very luxurious feeling diaper, and I love the snap in soakers. Especially since they contain bamboo, which is highly absorbent and has natural anti-microbial properties. I also love the fun, vibrant colors and prints available. On a scale from 1-10, I'd have to give this diaper a 7.5. It's definitely worth trying, and has become a go-to diaper to use on my son, Xander.
