My kids absolutely love anything related to food and cooking. I think it must be in the genes. I am a total foodie and love experimenting with recipes. I cook from scratch more often than not, and I really enjoy trying different flavor profiles and cooking techniques. (If you haven't checked out the recipes section of this blog, you should! I have loads of delicious stuff to try!)
My husband...well...He cannot cook to save his life, but he does love to eat! (Hey, that counts, right?) Okay, Dan cannot prepare any "real food" as I call it, but one thing the man can do is bake. He is a total chocoholic, and since I don't enjoy desserts, he often makes his own. He makes brownies, cupcakes, cookies, pies, and anything else that is sure to satisfy a sweets craving and add 5lbs at a sitting.
So it's really not much of a surprise that all 3 of my kids love cooking. My teen, Kyle, can make some pretty decent dishes. He has pretty much mastered the art of grilled cheese, and can also make pasta dishes.
My toddlers? Well, I don't trust them to actually cook real food yet, but they love to play chef in their Step2 kitchens. Yes, I said kitchens. Plural. We have a few of them! Each kitchen has different features, and with multiple kids playing, it makes sense to have more than one. There is nothing worse than a crowded kitchen! I have been known to yell at people to vacate while I am cooking.
Recently, we received the brand new Step2 Busy Bake Shop Kitchen to check out for ourselves. This is available at Walmart, and is definitely quite different than our other play kitchens. It's very colorful and cheery, and has tons of fun features that are sure to delight any budding bakers out there.
This kitchen features a sink, an oven, a fun magnetic dry erase board, and a generous work space. I absolutely love the fact that the Busy Bake Shop Kitchen includes some adorable cupcakes, cookies, and pie slices, along with tools to prepare them and dishes to serve them on.
And yes, that is Play-Doh you see! There are 4 fun colors included that can be rolled with the rolling pin, molded, and cut with the cookie cutters into fun baked treats.
There are also storage bins to keep all of your ingredients and supplies organized and neat.
There are plenty of baking tools included, and these can be neatly hung on some hooks that are located above the workspace. Clean up is a breeze, which makes my life so much easier as a busy mom. That's one thing I love the most about Step2 products. The folks at Step2 are parents, too, so they know the importance of having a place for everything when play time is through!
There is even a cute little electric kitchen timer so bakers are never at risk of burning their delectable treats. And always remember to use an oven mitt when removing hot pans from the oven! (Yes, kids will receive a cheerful, gingham oven mitt as well!)
Now I fully admit, I am not a list-maker. I never write things down and always rely on my memory while shopping. So far, it has worked out for me. However, I do see the value in being prepared and making a list, so these adorable ingredient magnets are perfect for teaching little ones to make their own shopping lists! Every baker needs eggs, flour, butter and milk! The dish simply won't turn out properly without them!
Sophie told me that this is her favorite kitchen of all. She loves the vibrant colors, and she really enjoys the inclusion of all the play food and baking tools. Her favorite part is probably the kitchen timer. She loves setting it and then rushing to grab her cupcakes out of the oven when it dings. She even knows to always use the oven mitt, as you will see in the video below!
Xander also loves baking his troubles away in the Busy Bake Shop Kitchen. He particularly likes rolling out the Play-Doh and making cookies and pie crusts. I think I may have another Bobby Flay on my hands here!
Check out this cute video of my 3 year old, Sophie, cooking away in her Busy Bake Shop Kitchen. As you can see, there is plenty to do and kids will definitely stay engaged in creative culinary play!
Overall, we're definitely in love with the Step2 Busy Bake Shop Kitchen. It was easy to assemble, and offers so much play possibilities in a relatively compact toy. It's nowhere near as large as our Lifestyle Grand Walk-In Kitchen, but that is a good thing, in my opinion. This kitchen can easily fit into smaller spaces, and can be moved from room to room with minimal effort. I have even moved it into the kitchen so my kids could cook along with me while staying safely out of the way of hot appliances.
So if you're looking for a super-cute, fun, functional play kitchen for the little foodies in your life, definitely head to Walmart and check out the Step2 Busy Bake Shop Kitchen. It's guaranteed to become a fast favorite!
