I'm Choosing A Non-Traditional Wedding Dress for Our Vow Renewal Ceremony

My husband and I have been married for over 5 years now. When we got married, we didn't have much money and opted to have a very small, private wedding at our minister's home. So small, in fact, that only 3 others were in attendance. I didn't get to wear the dress, carry a bouquet, and we weren't surrounded by family and friends. At the time, all that mattered to us was finally getting married.

While the ceremony we had was nice, it definitely didn't satisfy us. We wanted something a little more joyous, and we wanted loved ones to share it with us.

So here we are, 5 years later, and we're finally going to start planning a "real wedding". We have been talking about renewing our vows for quite some time now, but since I had back to back pregnancies, the timing was never ideal. Now we own our own home, live close to plenty of family, and are not having any more babies. We're hoping to say our "I do's" all over again sometime next summer.

But first, I need to find a dress. I have decided that I don't want a traditional white gown. We're already married, and with 3 kids, wearing white just wouldn't be appropriate. I have been shopping around, and one retailer I am really liking is DressFirst. They seem to have every style imaginable, and at extremely affordable prices. (And let's face it: With 3 kids and bills to pay, I am definitely on a budget!)

I really love this red gown. Red is one of my favorite colors, and I just love the intricate details. It definitely suits my personality well, and Dan likes it a lot, too. And yes, the price is definitely right. I don't want to make any impulsive decisions, though, so I am still considering several other styles.

Do you think it's too over-the-top to wear a colorful wedding dress? Should I just stick to white because it's traditional? I am seriously second-guessing myself, and would love some opinions!

It's YOUR wedding day. Enough said. :)

Okay, really - wear what makes you happy, what makes you feel like a princess marrying your prince charming. If red happens to be that color so be it. Do not second guess your choice because others might think it's odd. That dress is gorgeous. Alternative wedding options are a "thing" like sky diving while saying I do, or scuba diving, or on a roller coaster etc. Why wouldn't a colored dress be considered any different? Enjoy your planning, change your mind a 100 times about the dress if you want to. Again, it's YOUR day.

Go for it. :)

Red is the traditional colour of wedding dresses in China, it's a lucky colour so I think it's a great choice! It's your day, your dress, make it something you love! congratulations btw!
