![]() Since we just bought our new house, we have been doing a lot to try and update it and make it our own, while maintaining the charm that century homes possess. Yep, our house is almost 100 years old, and has loads of original brass and woodwork. There is even a neat tin ceiling in the kitchen! With all of the awesome things we want to leave untouched, we have a laundry list of things we want to change as well. For one, our living room has the most hideous wallpaper I have ever seen in my life. Also, our kitchen and upstairs bathroom flooring has GOT to go, since it literally looks like it was installed sometime in the 1960's, if not earlier. Another thing we wanted to change was our half-bath that is right off of the family room and kitchen. It's a very tiny space, and had absolutely no personality at all. Plain, white walls, drab fixtures, and nothing to make it pop. Take a look at the photo of this bathroom before our transformation. Pretty boring, if I do say so myself. Please note, since this room is so ridiculously small, it's extremely difficult if not downright impossible to photograph the room in its entirety. Yes, it is really that small. That's why I was so excited when I discovered Swag Paper! What is Swag Paper? Well, it brings the look of premium wallpaper to homeowners without the mess, hassle, and often time consuming prep and installation. You might think of it as wallpaper for dummies. Any do-it-yourself-er can apply Swag Paper, since it's a peel and stick solution that eliminates the need for pastes, etc. It even comes measured to fit your specific space, making the need for cutting minimal! I spent quite some time browsing the Swag Paper site, ooh-ing and ahh-ing over all of the wonderful prints that are available. There is everything from traditional, classy prints to bold, modern, geometric prints. There are many color options as well. I just knew that Swag Paper would be the ideal solution for our small bathroom space. Here are just a few of my favorite Swag Paper Designs...Prepare to drool! Also, please remember that ALL of Swag Paper's designs come in various color options. So if you see one you love but the colors aren't for you, they probably have an option that is! The awesome folks at Swag Paper agreed to send me some wallpaper for our teeny little bathroom. I was beyond thrilled! We ended up, after tons of deliberation, choosing the "Of A Feather" pattern in Splash of Mauve. We chose this color because it matches our frosted glass chandelier style drop light very well. We really like the light, so we didn't want to change it out! Our Swag Paper arrived very well packaged and was already separated into properly sized rolls for our walls. Yes, the people at Swag Paper want to make this process as easy and painless as possible! The first thing I noticed about the wallpaper is that it's very high quality. It is not flimsy at all, and has a wonderful, luxe texture like you'd find in very high-end wallpaper brands. I wish I could say that the installation process was free of hiccups, but that wasn't the case. This is by no means a defect in the paper. I think it's because our walls are made from old-fashioned plaster rather than drywall, so they're not completely level. This made applying the Swag Paper a little trickier than it should have been, since the uneven places in the wall tended to cause bubbles and creases. After lots of trial and error, including removing the paper and starting over, we were able to get it right. The process really didn't take very long, even with the few mishaps, and the most time consuming part was removing and reinstalling the toilet and basin. Here are some photos of our finished bathroom! I think it looks amazing, and gives the room a luxurious feel. Again, since the room is super tiny, I couldn't get photos of the whole room in one frame. Also, the lighting is weird in there, so I took photos with the lights off as well as on so you can see the differences in color depending on the lighting. While Swag Paper is an easy, time saving alternative to traditional wallpaper, there are some tips to make the installation process go much more smoothly.
1. Be sure to thoroughly clean your walls before you apply Swag Paper. Allow it to dry, too. This is imperative to getting great results. 2. Go slowly! Applying too quickly will result in creases and bubbles. 3. As you're applying your Swag Paper, be sure to use a flat tool like a large tongue depressor or a credit card to flatten the paper down as you go. This also helps to prevent creasing and bubbling. You must do this SLOWLY and FIRMLY. Be sure to get in the corners and along baseboards, too! 4. In the case of bathrooms, it is easier to apply Swag Paper if you remove toilets, sinks, etc. Trust me. Going around and behind them is a lot harder than you'd think! Overall, we are basically in love with our Swag Paper! It was so much easier than dealing with conventional wallpaper, and I love all of the chic patterns and colors offered. I should also point out that Swag Paper offers a great Match to Paint feature that helps find the ideal paint colors to coordinate with your Swag Paper! Swag Paper is priced per panel, and is quite reasonable in cost, especially considering the time and effort you save in comparison to regular wallpaper. The quality is amazing, too, and no one would know how little you didn't work unless you told them. This stuff is in one word, phenomenal. I plan to use this in more rooms in my home as we make our way from one project to the next! Check it out! I know you'll love the Swag Paper difference! My fav pattern is classic trellis or zigzag. I think I would use it to put behind the bookshelves in my living room to add a backSPLASH of color! :)
