![]() True story: In our last home, every single time I cooked, the fire alarm would go off. No, I wasn't burning our meals. I'm actually a fairly competent chef. I don't know if our smoke detector was just too sensitive or if it was downright defective, but I do know that it was incredibly annoying. I hate to say it, but my husband ended up removing that one completely because it was such a nuisance. For me, the two most important things are home security systems and smoke alarms. Now that we're settling into our new home in Ohio, I decided that I would hunt down a more sensible, reliable solution that would keep my family safe from fire without being faulty. That's when I discovered the absolutely ingenious new smoke and fire alarm from the folks at Universal Security Instruments. The IoPhic is a smart system that actually tells the difference between true fire emergencies and false alarms. Don't think false alarms are a real problem? Check out this informative infographic that shows just how common false alarms are: Pretty intriguing, isn't it? Who'd have thought that false alarms were so prevalent? I sure didn't! If you're anything like me, you'd rather be alerted to a true emergency than waste your time and that of the fire department on a false alarm.
Here's some more info about the IoPhic:
According to the NFPA, smoke alarms should be installed in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, and on every level of the home. Most people don’t realize there are different types of smoke alarms. IoPhic is the ideal smoke and fire alarm for every room in the home. I recently received an IoPhic smoke and fire alarm for my review. We placed it in our family room, which is the highest traffic area in our home. It's also located right near our kitchen. It was super easy to install, and my husband had it in place and working within minutes. I am happy to say, we haven't heard a peep out of it. Even while I'm cooking bacon or other foods that tend to smoke if overheated, our alarm has not gone off. In our old house, it would have definitely come in handy! Overall, I am very happy with this product and I can sleep soundly knowing that it will help alert my family to any fire related emergency that may arise...Hopefully this won't ever happen, though! HOW TO CONNECT : You can check out this and other great products on the Univeral Security Instruments website. You can also connect with them on Facebook to stay on top of their latest products and promotions! WIN IT ! We have a smoke alarm that WOULD go off when we shower,smoke,cook...my husband took the battery out. I know it's a bad idea, but, who wants an alarm that screams at you when you move?

YES! Just a couple nights ago when my Mississippi Southern man was cooking blackened chicken his way. What did he do? Take the battery out of the smoke alarm. Set it on the shelf and your review reminded me that it is still sitting there. Geesh!

The alarms we have, especially the one in the kitchen tends to go off a lot when cooking. If there is a spill in the oven, better have it cleaned in a hurry or it will set it off

We had something that could have been bad if we weren't home. We put a bulb into a fixture that was too high of a wattage... and it started to smoke. The alarm alerted us though, and we got it fixed.

Once when the kids were young I was teaching them to use 911 during an emergency.I left the room.I came back in to a call from 911 chewing me out.Apparently my daughter told my son to call saying we had a fire.He did! Now I chuckle at the memory!
