To be honest, I wouldn't want to travel back in time and give up modern technology. I love my iPhone and my Mac, as well as reality TV shows like Master Chef, The Voice, and X Factor....But, if I were an original hippie....I would have a fighting chance at actually seeing Jim Morrison in real life, and he died a decade before I was born...Still, as tempting as that might sound, I suppose I am happy being a "Modern Day Hippie." Why do people call me a hippie? Well, for about a zillion and a half reasons. For one, I cloth-diapered my kids the vast majority of the time. I also babywear. And buy organic foods from farmer's markets. And love classic rock. And I use natural and holistic remedies whenever possible. And essential oils. Oh, and we cannot leave out the fact that I own a tie-dye purse. Yep. I am a hippie, through and through! One thing I have always believed in is staying grounded, and fully connecting to the earth and things around you. Taking a moment to just exist, take in the beauty that surrounds you, and just feel gratitude and peace. In today's fast-paced, crazy world, it's so easy to become disconnected, mentally, physically, and spiritually. With 2 preschoolers and a teenager, there are moments that I definitely allow stress to cause a disconnect in my life. Since I am always looking for ways to stay more connected and balanced, the whole concept of Juil footwear really intrigued me. You see, these are no ordinary shoes. They're specifically designed to help create balance in your life. Now before you write that off as some New Age Hooey, hear me out. Let me introduce you to Juil and the science behind their footwear. About Juil:"In our everyday lives, we’re exposed to toxins and stress. Toxins include anything from breathing polluted air, to carrying our cell phones around. Stress can come from anywhere – work, school, friends, or family. Exposure to these stresses and toxins leads to a buildup of free radicals in our bodies. These free radicals attack healthy cells and cause inflammation, which, oh, by the way, is the root of almost all medical ailments. Fortunately, we have the Earth, a giant magnet with an endless supply of electrons. If we stay connected, these electrons are absorbed to neutralize and release the harmful free radicals in our bodies. While the easiest way to stay grounded is to walk barefoot, that’s not always possible, fashionable, or appropriate. Most footwear insulates our bodies from making a connection with the earth, but the copper “dots” in our sandals act as a conduit and allow you to stay truly connected and balanced." Pretty cool, right? And if you stop and think about it, it really does make sense! It's all about "synching energies" and maintaining a physical contact with the Earth, therefore helping to alleviate stress and inflammation. Our Review of the Juil Kilimanjaro :The awesome folks at Juil sent me a couple pairs of their sandals to try for ourselves. My son received the Kilimanjaro sandals, seen below, and I received the Mesa sandals. (Review of the Mesa sandals coming soon!) When our sandals arrived, the very first thing I noticed was how fancy that presentation was! The shoe box was very attractive, and opened with a fabric pull tab rather than a traditional lid. I know...Sounds like a silly thing to point out, but I really appreciate special little touches and a lil extra flair! Inside the box were the masculine Kilimanjaro sandals, as well as a soft, satiny carrying bag and a Juil notepad and literature. Talk about extra touches! I was absolutely thrilled by the extra goodies included! The sandals themselves are incredibly well made. They're durable, have super strong stitching, and are made from only the highest quality materials. The copper dots, or conductors, are very smooth and set into the shoes. They are not rough or scratchy at all, which makes them perfect for going barefoot in them! Kyle absolutely adores his Kilimanjaro sandals from Juil. He loves the design and the intricate weaving and detail. His friends say that they look like "Jesus sandals" or "gladiator shoes", and Kyle thinks that's really funny. Kyle wears these shoes all the time...Even though we're in NE Ohio and it is already COLD outside! He says they're extremely comfortable, but it did take a few days to fully break them in. They were a wee bit snug at first, but now the leather has stretched to fit his feet perfectly. He really does compare the feel of these sandals to walking barefoot. Overall, we are absolutely loving the footwear innovations from Juil. Sure, there are shoes with flashing lights, bling, bells and whistles. Other shoes have "shocks" or other new scientific additions that are supposed to add comfort. Sometimes, I think the best and most comfortable option is getting back to nature. Yes, sometimes simplicity is key. Thanks to Juil. you'll always stay connected and grounded, and yes, it does make a difference, as odd as it sounds! I would definitely recommend checking out Juil sandals. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by just how comfortable and well-made these shoes are. These would be especially wonderful for any winter time vacations like cruises, Hawaii, DisneyWorld, etc! Or, if you live places warmer than Ohio, they would be great for everyday wear!
