***Disclosure:As a LeapFrog Mom Ambassador, I receive products, promotional items, and educational material to use and share as I see fit. However, any opinions expressed by me are honest and reflect my actual experience.*** My kiddos love video games. No, I mean REALLY, REALLY love them. If they could play video games 24/7, they would happily do so. Of course, I am a party pooper and won't allow that. After all, everything in moderation, right? Things like eating, sleeping, cleaning their rooms, and engaging in real life activities matter just as much as gaming. I'm sure the kids would disagree, but my house, my rules. Anyway, Sophie and Xander's passion for gaming came in very handy when we received the LeapTV and a nice assortment of educational games to check out. LeapTV, made my LeapFrog, is a wonderful beginner's gaming console. This system has around 20 educational games, with more than can be purchased for around $19.99. (I have seen them at lower prices on Amazon!) All games are educational, and can help with everything to letter and number recognition to reading and math, and even science! Oh, since the LeapTV uses a motion sensor that interacts with the controller, kids get a chance to get off of the couch and MOVE! This is fantastic, since during the cold months, we don't get as much outdoor play time. It gets downright frigid here in the Cleveland, OH area! I love the fact that when my kids play the LeapTV, they also get to use up some of their excess energy! In addition to the awesomesauce LeapTV, we also received the following games to play:
The LeapTV was super easy to set up. Just plug in the camera, and then connect the HDMI cable to your TV. After that, there is simple, guided set-up to walk you through the rest. Within just a couple of minutes, we had our LeapTV installed and ready to play. Kids can set up their own profiles, and content is based on the age of your child. This is awesome, since it eliminates boredom and frustration. As your child grows, LeapTV grows with them. The learning is a continuous, ongoing process, and kids will always stay entertained and engaged. Sophie and Xander love all of the games, but their favorites would have to be Frozen and Doodlecraft. Frozen features the coolest Disney princesses around, Anna and Elsa, and it contains 5 games that teach kids basic math skills like shape recognition, counting, and basic addition and subtraction. I love the fact that this "Princess game" features math. A lot of girls don't like math, and this definitely helps to bridge the gap, creating confidence. Sophie despises math, but she LOVES this game! Doodlecraft is a very creative, artistic game. It allows kids to channel their inner VanGogh as they explore 5 different neighborhoods with Mr. Pencil. My kids love painting, building, and designing, so this game got 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up. Now THIS is the kind of gaming I can get behind. I may even allow extra game time, since I know that with LeapTV not only gets the kids moving, it also helps them learn. In my experience, incorporating education and play helps kids to actually retain knowledge and give them enthusiasm for learning.
