As a family of 5, it becomes quite the challenge to find a place for everything. Since 2 of our children are still very small, we sometimes seem to be completely overwhelmed with baby gear, toys, and mountains of kids' books! Seriously, we have hundreds of books for the kids. So many, in fact, we have to keep them in a few different places throughout the house. As we parents all know, as kids grow and become more independent, they like to be able to choose their own books to look at and have read to them. Doing this by looking at the spine of a book on an ordinary bookshelf doesn't make this an easy task for a budding bookworm. Kids are incredibly visual, and love to be able to see the covers of their books when choosing their next reading adventure. What does this mean? A child will pull not 1, not 2, but about 20 books off of the bookshelf, throw look at the covers until they find the one that they want to read, and will leave the others scattered all over the floor in a big, disorganized mess. Okay, at least this is what happens in MY house. I'm certain some of you can relate!

It's no secret that standard bookshelves aren't overly ideal for displaying children's books. Kids' books come in so many different shapes and sizes, and trying to fit them all neatly on a standard bookshelf just doesn't work. Especially since this only allows the spine to be seen. I have always loved the uniquely designed front facing bookcases found at day care facilities, at libraries, and in classrooms. You know the ones I mean...They are designed specifically with children's books in mind and allow the covers of the books, rather than the spines to be displayed. This makes picking out a book easy and fun for young children!

That's why I was so excited when I learned about Tidy Books. These fantastic bookshelves are designed with kids' books in mind, and are much like those ingenious shelves you'll find in your child's library! Tidy Books bookshelves are not only very attractive and match any decor, they are also a great learning tool. These great shelves feature a tactile, colorful alphabet to help encourage learning while kids explore, and also make it easy for kids to put their own books away, helping their sense of pride and responsibility! Each Tidy Books bookshelf will hold up to 85 children's books of all shapes and sizes, creating a visually stimulating and fully functional library that any child is sure to enjoy.

Here are some of the key features of the Tidy Books bookshelf:

  • Children can easily pick and choose their own books and put them back!
  • Eco friendly Water based lacquer for a natural finish.
  • 85 book capacity of all shapes and sizes.
  • Compact design takes very little floor space.
  • Fixes safely and securely to the wall.
  • Encourages independent reading.
  • Tactile 3D alphabet.
  • Front panels keep books in place.
  • Easy to assemble, supplied flat packed.
  • Space for all sizes skirting board
I was thrilled to receive a Tidy Books shelf in natural finish with primary lowercase letters for my review. When our bookshelf arrived, I was immediately impressed by the overall quality of this product. This bookshelf is made of sturdy, solid wood! A lot of other shelves I have seen in the past have had particle board or even thick cardboard backing, taking away from their potential durability. With Tidy Books, this is not at all a concern, as this shelf is backed with actual wood. This makes the Tidy Books kids bookcase a lifetime piece of furniture that is sure to withstand the use (and abuse) of generations of children!

The Tidy Books bookshelf is also very easy to pit together. My husband had it assembled and ready to go within 20-30 minutes. Another thing I really like about Tidy Books is their commitment to providing a safe product. A child won't be able to pull the shelf down, as it secures to the wall itself. As a mom, this makes me breathe a lot easier, as well as allows my toddler to browse her books independently. I also love the fact that the shelf is relatively small and doesn't take up a lot of room, but still holds a LOT of books!

Take a look!

Here is the bookself, free of books. How gorgeous is that?!
Picture
Tidy Books accommodates books of all shapes and sizes!
Picture
Tidy Books even easily holds the weight of larger, heavier storybooks!
Sophie, my toddler seems to really like being able to freely explore her books. Take a look at this cute video!
Overall, we absolutely love our Tidy Books bookshelf and look forward to enjoying years of use. As Sophie and Xander get older and outgrow the desire to have the alphabet present on their Tidy Books shelf, we can flip the front panels over for a clean, natural finish that won't cramp their "big kid" style. Personally, I hope that day doesn't come for several years, as I happen to adore the colorful alphabet on the shelf! Aside from growing with my kids, the Tidy Books children's bookshelf is also sturdy, safe, durable, and has a huge capacity in a space-saving design. I couldn't ask for anything more! I think I might have to order a couple more so we can fit all of our kid's books on these great shelves. This shelf gets an A++ from my family, since it encourages independence, a love of reading, and is very visually appealing. Plus, it keeps the books from being a jumbled mess! Why didn't someone offer this to parents earlier?!

My favorite place to get children's books is actually Scholastic. They have a great variety and are very reasonably priced.

I buy my kids books at a retail store, usually at Ross, Marshall's and TJ Maxx because they are cheaper there.

I like little local stores. I dream of a kids store like the one in youve got mail. I think it is probably barnes and noble most of the time.
