![]() I was really excited when the nice folks over at Silk Soymilk asked me to review their products and put it to a cereal taste-test. Why was I so excited? Well, because I am already a huge fan of their delicious soy milks. As a matter of fact, I buy a carton of their Very Vanilla Soymilk every time I go to the grocery store. This is known in my house as "Mommy's Milk" since I am the only one who drinks it. My husband is very resistant to trying anything other than conventional milk, and the kids...well, let's just say I am stingy when it comes to my Silk! I do let my oldest have some on occasion, but for the most part, it's all MINE! This isn't because I am a mean mommy...It's a rule I had to put into place because my Silk was disappearing before I could even enjoy any myself! Yes, this stuff is really THAT good! If you haven't tried Silk, you don't know what you're missing. Yes, I know that anything with the word "Soy" in it can seem rather intimidating to some. I am actually a big fan of soy, and I love munching on soy nuts (yes, these exist) and I drink soymilk often. Silk Soymilk is my favorite. It is rich, creamy, and comes in a wide variety of flavors. My favorites are the Chocolate and Very Vanilla varieties. To me, they taste a lot like a thinned-out milkshake! Silk Soymilk not only tastes great, it's nutritious, too, and offers 50% more calcium than typical dairy milk!** In a National Taste test in January, 2011, Silk Vanilla Soymilk was actually preferred by most people in their cereal*. That's right...It beat regular dairy milk! This came as no surprise to me, since I already love my Silk! In the spirit of taste-testing, I poured Kyle, my 11 year old, a bowl of cereal. Instead of using dairy milk, I used Silk Very Vanilla in its place. My son LOVED it! He was very pleased with the added boost of flavor that the Silk added to his cereal, and noted that it had a creamier, yummy taste to it that dairy milk just doesn't provide. But Silk offers more than just Soymilk! They've branched out and are now offering Pure Coconut Milk and even Pure Almond Milk! I have tried the Vanilla varieties of each, and they're quite good. I still prefer my Silk Very Vanilla, though. That's been my favorite for years! Silk even has a very surprisingly tasty Silk Nog, just in time for the Holidays! I recently tried this as well, and it tastes just like egg nog! Yummy! Did you know that you can even cook with Silk? I have used it in baking before as well as in mashed potatoes! (Although I didn't use the vanilla flavor for mashed potatoes!) You can find a ton of great recipe ideas on the Silk website. These products are wonderful for cooking, and you wouldn't even know you were cooking with soy. The flavors are amazing! Believe me, no one will know the difference! Overall, I am and will remain a huge fan of Silk products. Not only do they taste fantastic, they are also very nutritious. And yes, these milks taste great with breakfast cereals! Now that I have allowed my son to delve into "Mommy's Milk" and have a taste-test of his own, I have a feeling I am now going to have to buy 2 cartons of Silk when I go to the grocery store. The secret is out, and I doubt I will be allowed to hog it all for myself now! Try it! Silk comes in 3 varieties and in 17 different choices. BUY IT: You can learn more about Silk on their website. You can find Silk products at many local stores or by using this Silk Locator! You can also follow Silk on Facebook and on twitter for exclusive offers and coupons! I love Silk! The unsweetened soy milk is great because there is no added sugar, you can use it while cooking savory dishes, and it has 7g of protein.
