I just scored the Wife Of The Year Award...Did I do anything spectacular to receive such an honor? Was it because I care for our children and clean our home and still find the energy to blog and find time for romance? You would think these things would earn me such a coveted title, but this was not the case. I am Wife Of The Year because I got an assortment of Guylian Belgian Chocolates to review. You see, my husband is the world's biggest chocoholic. I have seen him devour a 5lb. chocolate bar in a matter of a few hours. Not to mention being able to consume an entire chocolate silk pie in one sitting and wash it down with a whole large carton of chocolate milk. I think it's safe to say that the way to my man's heart is through his chocolate addiction. And Guylian Belgian Chocolates are not your ordinary chocolates! They are masterfully created using small-batch copper kettles by master chocolatiers in the heart of Belgium. Guylian “ultra-indulgent” luxurious chocolate seashells are 100% pure, silky smooth, dark and white Belgian Chocolate and are filled with rich, decadent creamy chocolate praline truffle. The Guylian brand dates back to the late 1950’s when Guy Foubert, a passionate Belgian Chocolataire married his love, Liliane who then joined names creating Chocolaterie Guylian. Today, Guylian crafts the finest authentic Belgian Chocolate Truffles, utilizing the original handmade recipe of Guy and Liliane. The original signature truffle recipe is still used today, and is loved by chocolate connoisseurs worldwide.
I received a generous assortment of chocolates to share with my family. When they arrived, they were very well-packaged and in a cooled container. I appreciated that very much, as the weather here in Virginia has been consistently over 100 degrees lately. I was also surprised at the variety of chocolates available from Guylian. Sure, I had seen their delectable seashell truffles before, but I had no idea that there is also a wonderful line of dark chocolates as well as No Sugar Added chocolate bars, both in milk and dark chocolate varieties. Needless to say, when my husband got a glimpse of all the chocolatey goodness, he bestowed the Wife Of The Year title upon me and told me "Brandy, you have the coolest job ever!"
We had a wonderful time doing a formal chocolate tasting once the kids went to bed, complete with some Champagne and some Blue Moon Belgian Ale for the hubby, some fresh strawberries, and an assortment of cheeses, including Havarti, Brie, Meunster, and homemade Mozzarella. We put on some mood music, lit some candles, and had an evening filled with conversation and a wonderful tasting experience. I loved the way the Champagne really brought out the flavors of these fine chocolates. The truffles were especially decadent, as they have so many distinct layers of flavor...From a sweet, creamy white chocolate and silky, rich dark chocolate exterior to the wonderful praline truffle filling, these truly provided a taste adventure. We also tried some of their Extra Dark Truffles which were exceptional with the berries and the cheese assortment. Of course we made sure to reserve some of this scrumptious chocolate for the kids, too!
Once we had our little "Date Night" at home tasting chocolates, we saved the bars to try the next day. I have to say, my husband was a huge fan of the Dark Chocolate No Sugar Added Bar. He actually did not expect to like it, since it said "No Sugar Added." What can I say? He seems to gravitate towards sugar the way Snooki gravitates to "Juice-Head Gorillas." But trust me, the label is quite deceptive! This chocolate was very, very tasty and had the same smooth, melt in your mouth quality found in Guylian's signature truffles. My personal favorite out of the entire assortment was the No Sugar Added Milk Chocolate Bar. This was some of the creamiest, most delicious chocolate I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. It was very smooth, has fantastic flavor, and had a very pleasant finish. And I would have never guessed that this amazing chocolate contains less sugar than many of its counterparts.
Overall, we LOVED Guylian's fine Belgian Chocolates. They are truly in a class all their own! It is evident by the superior quality of these treats that they are lovingly handcrafted by true chocolate masters, and every single nibble was meant to be savored and enjoyed to the fullest extent. I now understand why Guylian is noted as being the world's favorite Belgian Chocolate!
