Why does my family call me this? Well, it's pretty self-explanatory. I am one stingy mama when it comes to doling out the sugary, processed treats that kids seem to crave. The only time there are Ho-Ho's or Twinkies in my home is when my sugar-addicted husband sneaks them in. And then he sneaks them to the kids, and ends up getting an earful and the "evil eye" from me. Hence the name, "Junk Food Nazi". Now don't get me wrong here. I am not anti-treat entirely. I am just very mindful of what goes into my childrens' bodies, and I avoid products that contain a laundry-list of scary sounding ingredients that I cannot even begin to pronounce. Chances are, if you can't pronounce an ingredient, it's chock-full of chemicals and it probably doesn't do your body any good. And then, of course, there are GMO's. (Genetically modified organisms.) There's a lot of debate about GMO's, and people are becoming more and more aware of the potential risks and side-effects of these genetically-altered products. (Round-Up ready snack cakes, anyone?) Like I said, there is still much debate about the use of GMO's, but I find it hard to believe that things banned in much of the world are completely harmless, so I prefer to err on the side of caution whenever possible. Since I don't want to deprive my kids of the things they love like cookies and muffins and snack bars, I have started seeking out organic versions of these favorite snacks. So far, I have had great success finding organic snacks that they love. One of our favorite brands would have to be ginnybakes. Haven't heard of ginnybakes before? Allow me to introduce you! ginnybakes offers a wide variety of gluten-free, organic, and kosher snacks that the whole family is bound to love. (Yes, even if there are no gluten sensitivities.) These snacks are made lovingly using only the highest quality organic ingredients. No chemicals and preservatives, and no GMO's. They even offer a Vegan line! So what products does ginnybakes offer? Well, lots! There are tons of cookies, snack bars, muffins, and even baking mixes. They come in some pretty crave-worthy flavors like Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bliss, Coconut Oatmeal Bliss, Butter Crisp Love, and Double Chocolate Happiness, just to name a few. And those are only the cookies! This company offers such a wide selection of baked goodies, so you're sure to find something that makes you drool. Literally. We received a nice assortment of ginnybakes products to try for ourselves as part of a Green Moms Meet program. Included were loads of cookies, a few baking mixes, and even some of ginnybakes' delicious snack bars. (They're even labeled "outrageously delicious"!) While we loved all of these snacks, there were definitely a few stand-outs in our home. My personal favorite were the Butter Crisp Love Cookies. I have to admit, I am not big on sweets in general, so these were perfect for me. They had a nice, rich, buttery flavor, without an overwhelming sweetness. The kids loved the Coconut Oatmeal Bliss and the Chocolate Chip Love cookies the best. We also tried out the cookie baking mixes and took the freshly baked cookies with us to my family reunion last weekend. There are some gluten-free folks in the family, so we wanted to bring something that everyone could enjoy. Those cookies were gone in no time, and everyone raved about how tasty they were. No one could even tell that they were gluten-free. That in itself is pretty darn impressive, if I do say so myself! Overall, we're definitely loving ginnybakes. These treats are so delicious, and since they're completely organic and free of all the "yuckiness" that their traditional counterparts include, I can allow my kids to snack without the Mommy Guilt. So if you're looking for a healthier alternative to traditional snacks, definitely check out what ginnybakes has to offer. These are perfect for gluten-free lifestyles, but are delicious enough for everyone to enjoy. How to Connect :You can check out the awesomeness that is ginnybakes on their website.
ginnybakes products are sold at Costco stores in the San Francisco Bay Area, Whole Food Market stores, and Fresh Market. They recently found their way into Stop & Shop, Giant, Martin’s, Big Y stores, and Peapod for those who live in the New York and New England region! Use the store locator on ginnybakes.com to find more ginnybakes locations near you.
