![]() I am a huge fan of natural body care products. Not only are they better because they are made with time tested ingredients inspired by nature, they are also generally free of chemicals and additives that can, over prolonged use, do more harm than good to the skin. My general rule of thumb? If you cannot pronounce what's in a product, you probably shouldn't be putting it on your body! Over the past few years I have been far more conscious of the personal care products that I use as well as those I use on my children. I don't want to slather my kids in products that are full of parabens, pthalates, chemicals, and dyes. Some people are a bit wary of organic or natural products. There is a stigma attached to such products that they don't work as well as their non-organic counterparts. In some cases, this is true. But there are tons of fantastic green products out there that work just as well if not better than conventional products. You just need to know what to look for when it comes to ingredients! One of my favorite ingredients is coconut oil. Did you know that the coconut tree is often referred to as the “tree of life”? Why? Because coconut oil is full of natural healing properties that repair your body both internally and externally. Your skin is your body’s largest organ, so start using nature’s best ingredients to heal and protect your skin to keep you beautiful and healthy! Coconuts do wonders for the hair, skin, and even nails, and since pure virgin coconut oil is totally natural, it does not irritate the skin. Even for those with existing skin conditions! That's why I was excited to learn about a brand new company that specializes in body care products made with organic, virgin coconut oils! Basa Body makes high quality, all natural lotions, body sticks, and more made from freshly harvested coconuts in Kenya. Basa Body is about so much more than superior quality, all natural body care products, though. Basa Body is a company with a huge heart, dedicated to helping to improve the lives of women and families who struggle to make ends meet. The Basa Body story began years ago with a single trip to Kenya. They connected with wonderful, intelligent women working hard to feed their families. Their small-scale enterprise was called Coast Coconut Farms, where they produced virgin, organic coconut oil by hand. Intrigued by their commitment, skill, and entrepreneurial spirit, the Basa Body team was determined to help these women tell their story and grow their business. The result is Basa Body, named after the women of Mombasa, Kenya, where Basa's coconut oil is produced. As well as providing a sustainable income and employment for the women of Coast Coconut farms, Basa Body also donates 10% of its profits to humanitarian projects in Kenya. Yehu Microfinance is one of their partner organizations and has helped over 18,000 women secure loans to start their own businesses and help themselves and their families rise out of poverty. Here is a small glimpse behind the scenes at Coast Coconut Farms in Kenya: So as you can see, Basa Body is making a real difference in the lives of many women in Kenya. These beautiful, kind, and skilled women work hard to provide for their families. With the help of Basa Body, their dreams providing a better life for their children has just become something attainable. I absolutely love the story behind Basa Body. I have the utmost admiration to companies that are committed to giving back to the communities that they work in.
But aside from being a socially responsible company with a wonderful mission, I am sure you're wondering if these products work. The answer: Yes! I received a sample of Basa Body's Coconut scented lotion as well as their Basa Body Stick Natural Coconut Oil Healing Balm. I generally receive a full sized product so I can form a more accurate opinion over prolonged use. Unfortunately, since the lotion I received was a sample size, I cannot base my opinion on a few weeks of continued use. I will say that the lotion smells amazing, absorbs well into even the driest of skin, and is very moisturizing. I love the way it made my hands and body feel. After using this lotion, my skin was supple, smooth, and velvety soft. I can only assume that the results would be fantastic with everyday use, especially in the upcoming colder months! I also really love their Basa Body Stick. This is a wonderful coconut oil based stick that can be used on dry, cracked skin, such as the heels, elbows, knees, and anywhere else you might need a healing moisture boost! This healing balm absorbs well into the skin and I saw almost immediate relief on my dry, cracked heels. This will definitely be a go to product for me this winter, as the cold tends to dry my skin out. Overall, I am very impressed by the products offered by Basa Body. They are safe for the whole family to use, and they do exactly what they say they'll do. But even more importantly, by choosing Basa Body, you're helping support a wonderful cause and are making a real difference in the lives of women and families in Kenya. It just doesn't get any better than that! HOW TO CONNECT: Basa will be launching their updated skin-care products and website in November 2011.
