![]() With a baby and a toddler in the house, we go through a lot of baby food. And I do mean a LOT! Now that Xander is taking in at least 8 oz of solids per day in addition to his bottles, I am probably single-handedly keeping some baby food companies in business during these tough economic times. Baby food is expensive! Not to mention the fact hat a lot of prepackaged baby foods are full of additives and preservatives that I don't want my children ingesting. The way I see it, when it comes to my babies, fresh is ALWAYS better. Organic and fresh? Even better still. Sure, there are tons of commercially prepared organic baby foods. I have reviewed several of them right here, and my children have enjoyed them immensely. But while these products are wonderful and nutritious, they can be a bit on the pricey side. We're a one income family, and we pinch pennies wherever we can to make ends meet and give our kids the little extras that help make childhood a magical time. That's why when I got the opportunity to review the So Easy Baby Food Kit from Fresh Baby, I was intrigued and couldn't wait to try my hand at making my own, nutritious baby foods right in the comfort of my own kitchen. I love to cook "grown-up" food, so making baby food couldn't be too hard, right? Well, with this great little kit, it's literally So Easy, just as the name states. Fresh Baby gets definite brownie points for truth in advertising. When I received my So Easy Baby Food Kit, I couldn't wait to get started. I wanted to dash into my kitchen and immediately start whipping up some baby-friendly concoctions. But, for the sake of review, I decided not to get ahead of myself and actually watch the DVD and read the book before beginning. Yes, I said book and DVD! The folks at Fresh Baby have truly included all the knowledge you need to start making delicious baby foods. Included in the kit are a How-To DVD, A fantastic "work-book" that includes tons of valuable information and recipes to help you get started, a wonderful laminated chart with must-have info regarding baby's ages and stages as well as first aid info and common food-induced baby ailments. There is even a section that outlines the absolute best sources of nutrition for growing babies. Oh! And let's not forget the super-durable, BPA-Free, freezable baby food trays! Take a look at all of the goodies included in the So Easy Baby Food Kit! ![]() MY OPINION: I absolutely LOVE this kit. It really takes the guesswork out of how to make fast, nutritious foods for my babies. I also love that the book encourages creativity. So many people assume that baby foods need to be flat, one-note flavors. I personally like giving my children food that is good for them and also TASTES good, too! I use herbs and spices in my babies' foods routinely, and their little taste buds thank me for it! (I do NOT add salt to my foods at all...Baby or adult! So that's not what I mean by spices!) As a matter of fact, my daughter will not eat traditional toddler food at all. You know the kinds I mean...They come prepackaged in cute little containers and are made by a HUGE baby brand? Well, she hates them. I tasted one before, and I can't say I blame her! They are incredibly bland and smell like dog food. Eww! With the So Easy Baby Food Kit, I have found myself broadening my horizons and coming up with fun medleys to serve Xander, my 6 month old. In the photo above, I have a pea, potato, and squash medley as well as a blueberry-plum mixture. And you know what? I made all of this in LESS than 30 minutes and didn't even break a sweat! I have even used eggplant, tomato, and fresh basil to make an Italian-inspired treat! The best part? Since I am in control of what goes into the baby food, I also know exactly what is going into my baby's tummy. I have no concern about pesticides, preservatives, or added sugars and salts using this kit. Genius! Now all I need is a baby-food steamer/blender combo to make this even easier! I also love the food trays. They freeze the baby food into perfect little cubes that can be popped out and thawed as needed. This is wonderful, because it greatly reduces waste and keeps the food super-fresh. I have even used these trays for other, non-baby food related applications as well! I have frozen gravy in them, as well as fruit-juice ice cubes for teas. There are really a ton of different ways to use these trays, even beyond my children's baby years! The So Easy Baby Food Kit gets an A+++ from me. With the book and the DVD, anyone can be well on their way to making the best, freshest baby food around. Even if you're not a whiz in the kitchen! The step-by-step instructions are clear, concise, and very easy to follow. My 11 year old has even helped me make some baby cuisine using this awesome kit! So if you've ever been tired of the high cost of baby food, or maybe even been concerned about all of the additives in store-bought foods, this kit is definitely for you. You'll be whipping up inspired dishes for your baby in no time! And following their age appropriate guidelines, your baby will be getting exactly the nutrition they need! We made our own baby food when I had my son and it was great! We never fed him anything that we hadn't tried ourselves and I have to say manufactured baby food is disgusting! We always took what ever we were eating and threw it into a blender on puree.

I made my oldest's babyfood and plan on making babyfood for my youngest once she's eating solids. My oldest loved flavored applesauce (it's how I introduced strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, mango, kiwi, corn and cherries!

I really like the "italian-inspired" puree you suggested. Or maybe even a Thanksgiving meal inspired one? LOL. Much better than the jarred ones.
