It's that time of year, everyone! The Holiday shopping season is upon us! (At least it is if you're like me and get an early start to avoid the mad rush of frazzled, last-minute shoppers in December!)

For the 2017 Holiday season, I will be featuring tons of great gift ideas for babies, kids, men, women, pets, and even for the person who has everything. We all have some of those on our gift lists, don't we? There will even be loads and loads of chances to win many of the gifts I am featuring. How cool is that?! You can check out my 2017 Holiday Gift Guide at any time from now till Christmas. Make sure to check often, as it will be growing by the day!

Today, I want to talk about something that everyone loves: Sweets and baked goods! Whether you're looking for a sweet treat to be gifted, or just looking for some expert help for your own Holiday buffet, La Risa Baking Co. has a huge variety of expertly created baked goods sure to please every taste.

La Risa (pronounced ree-sa) is Spanish for “The Laughter”. La Risa was a thriving busy café just 45 minutes outside of Santa Fe and over the course of 11 years gained an incredibly faithful fan base through word of mouth. 80% of the clientele were Santa Feans that made the beautiful drive all the way out to Ribera, New Mexico, just to enjoy our “phenomenal” food and desserts. There was actually had a select group of super fans who would drive from Albuquerque (90 miles) and order dessert for the table AND to take with them… all before they even looked at the menu… and they weren’t the only ones who planned their meal around decadent desserts made completely from scratch. People love La Risa's amazing, unique, freshly baked cookies, brownies, pies and cakes. Although they currently only serve cookies and brownies, they are working on getting the rest of their collection prepared for nationwide delivery.

So why choose La Risa when prepping for your Holiday gatherings?

To put it plainly, not all cookies are created equal.

In fact, their motto is "Pounds of Cookies, Not a Pound of Cookies". There's a reason for this: The folks at La Risa Baking Co. use more dough per cookie than their competitors. A LOT more, actually. They
use a minimum of 2.5 ounces (sometimes 3 ounces) of dough to make their cookies!

The standard is 1 ounce for most places. This means you’ll receive
Pounds of Cookies, Not a Pound of Cookies. The folks at La Risa Baking Co. feel this is just the right size for a cookie. Not too small and not too large.

Word. I agree completely.

How does this compare to your favorite, local bakery? Here's a simple breakdown for you to consider:

On a per ounce basis, La Risa Baking Co. cookies are around 94¢/ounce for 1 dozen, but can be as inexpensive as 73¢/ounce for 2 dozen. After countless hours of research, they've found out that most other companies give you around 1 pound of cookies for anywhere between $1-$2/ounce.

Generally, a dozen of La Risa's cookies is $30, weigh 2 pounds or more and each cookie weighs at least 2.5 ounces.

When breaking it down this way, you can see that this is actually a very good value!

We received a nice assortment of goodies to check out for ourselves. Included were favorites like Peanut Butter, Gingersnaps, Chocolate Chip, Biscochitos and more.

We also received some HUGE brownies, and some absolutely unique and flavorful Wedding Cookies.  (These, along with the Bischochitos, are traditional Hispanic cookies, and are absolutely craveworthy.)

When our shipment arrived, which was very quickly, the first thing we noticed was how well-packed everything was. Each item was shrinkwrapped, which helps to extend and preserve freshness beautifully.

The next thing we noticed was the size of the cookies and brownies. WOW, these were generously sized! The cookies were large without being obscenely huge, and the brownies were as well. Honestly, I cut the brownies in half for my younger kids so they wouldn't end up experiencing chocolate overload!

My favorite treats had to be the Wedding Cookies. These are unlike anything I've tried before, and have a nice, delicate flavor that's full-bodied without being too sweet. They're also covered in a tasty powdered sugar, which lends a little sweetness, too.

Overall, we're definitely loving what La Risa Baking Co. has to offer. Not only are their baked goods amazingly fresh and flavorful, you can actually taste the love that went into each individual treat. Check them out!  I think you'll be as pleasantly surprised as we were!
