![]() It's no secret that we, as a society, are making a movement towards living greener lifestyles. We are becoming increasingly aware about how even traditional household products may pose a threat to the environment and even to the health of our families. With frequent stories in the media about things like GMO's, chemicals, allergens and irritants being found in the products we come into contact with, more and more parents are looking for safer alternatives that also help reduce our carbon footprint. In my home, we try and do as much as possible to limit our children's exposure to these potentially harmful substances, as well as teach them to be more environmentally-friendly citizens. After all, we only have one Earth, and I know I would like to help preserve it so that future generations can enjoy its beauty. We cloth-diaper, buy clothing that is made from sustainable, organic materials, eat locally sourced organic foods whenever possible, and we even use natural and organic personal care and household products. I know it sounds like an overwhelming transition to make, but it's really been easy for us to adapt to a cleaner, greener lifestyle. There are a ton of great, greener products available on the market for families today, even for those with infants and toddlers! One great way to go green is to choose an environmentally-friendly crib mattress. Not only are these better for the planet, they're also much safer for baby! Traditional crib mattresses are often produced using harsh chemicals, pesticides, and common allergens like latex and wool. Let's face it: Babies spend a lot of time in their cribs, especially during the first year of life when they sleep frequently. These substances are not things I feel comfortable letting my babies come into contact with on a daily basis, especially for several hours at a time. For many of us, eco-friendly crib mattresses haven't even been a possibility since they've always been on the pricey side. Some are several hundred dollars! They're well worth the cost, but for families on a budget, they're not always affordable. That's why I was so excited to learn about Lullaby Earth! This innovative company has created the very first recyclable crib mattress, and they're at a much more affordable price-point than their other green competitors! Since these mattresses are priced very similarly to higher-quality traditional crib mattresses, every family can enjoy the safety and benefits they include! Lullaby Earth has unmatched safety features and benefits: Super-lightweight design (approx. 7 pounds total while still a full 6 inches thick, making it easy to lift the mattress and change the sheets) Food-grade polyethylene waterproofing (meets food-contact standards) Easy wipe-clean surface(no staining) Seamless edges (hygienic easy wipe when cleaning - nothing gets caught in the edges) Square corners (for a better fit in most cribs) Dust-mite and bed bug-proof(bugs cannot penetrate the waterproof surface) Comfortableyet firm surface (per pediatrician and CPSC recommendations) Snug design with strong side support (per CPSC recommendations) The entire mattress is Made in the USA Lifetime Limited Warranty (to the original buyer) Lullaby Earth has unmatched safety certifications: Certified by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (www.greenguard.org) to its "Children & Schools" standard as well as to its "Select" standard, GREENGUARD'S most stringent standard for both home and healthcare environments. Recommended by Healthy Child Healthy World (www.healthychild.org), a national children's advocacy coalition promoting healthier children's products) Lullaby Earth is free of the following: *No polyurethane foam *No vinyl, PVC, or phthalates *No latex or other known allergens *No harmful fire retardant chemicals *No perfluorinated compounds (PFC's) *No harmful pesticides Recently, we received the Super Lightweight Crib Mattress from Lullaby Earth to review. I was immediately impressed by the weight (or lack there-of) of this mattress! It really is feather-light and is easy to maneuver. This gets massive brownie points since there's nothing I hate more than having to man-handled a bulky, heavy mattress to change the bedding. Since this is only about 7lbs, it's no longer a chore to have to change crib sheets every day. (Or more, depending on the age of the baby!) I also love the seamless, waterproof design of the mattress.Whether it's drool, spit-up, urine, or whatever, cribs can become soiled very quickly. Lullaby Earth crib mattresses are completely waterproof, even on the edges where most crib mattresses have seams. Just wipe up any mess with regular soap and water and you are good to go! A waterproof mattress makes for a more hygienic crib environment. By keeping fluids out of the mattress, there is a lower likelihood of mold or mildew growth. It also extends the life of the mattress and preserves your investment for many years of use. Oh, I should also mention that these mattresses are made from ingredients so pure that they even meet food contact standards! Of course, I wouldn't recommend eating off of a mattress! I also love how well the mattress fits into our crib. There aren't any hazardous gaps, and it sits snugly in the frame. Another great feature is how comfortable the Lullaby Earth Super Lightweight Mattress is! Some crib mattresses are far too firm or way too soft for baby to comfortably sleep. This mattress provides the firmness baby needs while remaining soft enough to provide ultimate comfort. Sophie absolutely loves it, and she never tosses and turns in an attempt to find her "sweet spot". This means she falls asleep faster and stays asleep longer. I won't complain, since it allows me to get more sleep, myself! Overall, I love our Lullaby Earth Super Lightweight Crib Mattress. It is well-made, extremely durable, and contains no substances that could potentially harm my toddlers. I love the convenience this mattress offers since it's so lightweight, and I also appreciate how easy it is to clean. Add to that the fact that it's completely recyclable? Well, it just doesn't get much better than that, in my humble opinion! I would definitely recommend Lullaby Earth to any family who is looking for an eco-friendly, safer alternative to traditional crib mattresses. Or those who don't like the heavy lifting associated with changing crib bedding, for that matter. Give it a shot! Your back and your baby will thank you!

Per Lullaby Earth's website, one of the ingredients is PETE (polyethylene terephthalate). This substance is thought to be an endocrine disruptor. Their site does not specifically claim to be free of phthalates. Just an FYI.
