Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner! While this is traditionally a day to celebrate Hispanic heritage, you don't have to be of Hispanic descent to celebrate. I'm not, and I celebrate every year. I love this holiday because it gives me a reason to enjoy a delicious Mexican feast and maybe even indulge in a few celebratory cocktails. You know...Because after slaving away at the stove all day preparing some amazing, spicy dishes, I need a drink or two.
You all know I try and choose as many natural and organic products as possible in my home. I love organic fruits and veggies, as well as cage-free chicken and eggs, organic beef, etc....But little did I know there were natural and organic options in adult beverages!
Recently, I discovered a couple of great options that are ideal for your Cinco de Mayo celebrations. They're bright and refreshing, and yes, they are eco-friendly, too!
The first product I'd love to introduce you to is a very unique liqueur. So unique, in fact, that it's only produced in one place! Villa Massa Limoncello is made in the Sorrento peninsula of Italy.
Villa Massa Limoncello is made from the infusion of fresh Sorrento Oval Lemon peels (P.G.I.) in top quality alcohol, with the addition of purified water and refined sugar. It is made with 100% all-natural, quality ingredients - containing no artificial preservatives, additives or coloring at all.
Villa Massa Limoncello is traditionally served chilled before or after a meal, but it is pretty darn versatile, and can be enjoyed other ways, too! This delicious, citrusy liqueur can also be served over ice cream, in coffee, or in a number of cocktails.
My favorite way to enjoy it is pretty simple...I like to mix it with Sprite! (Or any other lemon-lime soft drink.) This simple cocktail is light and refreshing, and has an amazingly fresh, lemony flavor. I am not generally a huge fan of sour things, but this is perfectly balanced and the sprite mellows out some of the "bite". For an even sweeter treat, add a touch of Grenadine!
Another perfect pairing for those Cinco de Mayo feasts is Organic Eppa SupraFruta Sangria. Yes, I said ORGANIC! Sangria is a staple for any Mexican-themed meal, and offers a truly unique and festive blend of flavors.
Eppa is the world's first premium sangria made with organic grapes and super fruit juices. Light bodied and refreshing, it's natural, subtle sweetness is a result of its blend of real fruit juices, which bring a brightness of flavor. Eppa also boasts nearly twice the antioxidants as a glass of red wine!
o Eppa Red: Features sweet citrus scents of orange, lemon and lime meld with aromas of rich red wine. Dark berry flavors mingle with pomegranate, orange, and soft red wine notes for a smooth style.
o Eppa White: Peach and mango aromas burst from the glass. On first sip, clean, fresh flavors of lemon, lime, and orange delight followed by rich tropical flavors of mango, pineapple and peach.
Eppa SupraFruta Sangria is certified organic by the CCOF, so you can enjoy it without any guilt or worries of nasty chemicals, GMO's or preservatives being consumed.
I received a bottle of the Eppa Red, and I have to say, this is pretty tasty. So good, in fact, that I didn't really feel like sharing with my husband! It's bursting with fresh, fruity goodness with just a hint of citrus. I serve this cold, and even add a few lemon and lime slices for an added burst of flavor. Yum!
I would highly recommend either of these fantastic, eco-friendly beverages. They're crisp, refreshing, and definitely anything but ordinary. These would be amazing paired with some fresh fruits, chips and salsa, tacos, enchiladas, and even lime-marinated, grilled seafood! And the fact that these are free of any "ickiness" is a total added bonus!
Are you celebrating Cinco de Mayo? What will you be serving? I'd love to hear all about your celebration ideas!
