![]() Discover the Forest #NaturehoodWe would like to encourage you to enjoy your local #Naturehood and to help encourage others to do the same. These “naturehoods” are just a short drive away, making it easy for families to unplug from the daily routine and re-connect with nature. Does it ever seem like your kids aren’t spending nearly as much time outdoors as you did when we were little? With all of the new technologies and overscheduling of today’s world, it’s easy to forget just how close—and how important— your local forest or green space really is for your kids! There are many developmental benefits for children who spend time in nature, and it’s closer than you think. Did you know? Children who play outside are more creative, have lower stress levels and more active imaginations. They also become fitter and leaner, develop stronger immune systems, and have greater respect for themselves and others as well as the environment.Check Out This Cool Experiment"A bit of back story on it: For the most part, it was a real, live experiment with kids. We really did promise that they would get to test out “the most realistic game in production,” and bussed them to a local NYC park to do so. We got to watch their reactions when they realized that the forest itself was the game!" Below is a quote from the video’s creative director that you should feel free to use: “We tricked a bunch of kids into putting down their video games by telling them that they'd be testing an even better video game. When we finally revealed that the forest itself was the game, they weren't the least bit disappointed. As a mom, I see firsthand how stressed out kids are these days and how hard they're pushed by school requirements and state testing. It was a pleasure to work on a project supporting getting kids out into nature which is scientifically proven to offer meaningful health benefits to these kids,” said Jill Applebaum, Creative Director. There are forests all over here. Usually we go to ashburry woods, Presque isle, edge water, or McConnell mills

I'm sure there are plenty of forests in the area. We've been camping in the state park. I'm a bit old for tent camping at this point. Right now, my focus is bracing for a hurricane. Hopefully it won't be too bad. We're supposed to get 8-10 inches on Monday.

There are forests in the mountains about 40 minutes away (I'm in the desert at the base of the mountain). We like to go up in winter when there is snow on the ground.

It's funny because our subdivision is named The Forest. We're in the mountains, so almost every house around looks like it's in the woods. We are very close to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and several other wilderness areas and national forests. We have a trip planned this weekend to go hiking and take photos. My daughter loves being outside enjoying the woods.

We moved to a suburban area recently- nearest wooded area is marked off limits, sadly. There's a city park a few miles away, but not quite the same as the "woods".

I live on 5 acres of woods, I wouldn't call it a forest, but I have 2 boys that absolutely loved being in the woods and exploring nature! We also visited the redwood forest in CA.

The back of our farm is pretty wooded! It's not a forest but it is nice to take a walk through it with the kiddos though.

We have a couple of forest preserves by our house that have trails that we walk on in the fall. A couple aren't maintained good enough with a lot of tree's down and in the paths but the ones that have hiking trails are great.

We have loads of forests around our town. My son loves to hike in and around those forests. He was a member of the local forestry crew.

We do have a forrest nearby our neighborhood... it's across the street! We haven't explored the big forrest just across the street yet but have explored the small bit of land at the end of our duplexes and the kids have built forts with fallen limbs and the like. My kids always seem happier and sleep better at night after having a bunch of fun playing outside. I sleep better and feel more relaxed too after going exploring with them.
