![]() My kids love puzzles. Okay, scratch that. They're still toddlers, so much of the time, they just enjoy "helping" their Daddy put together his very complex puzzles. They will literally sit and watch Dan tackle even the most daunting of puzzles for hours on end. The idea of taking a ton of little, oddly shaped pieces and turning them into a beautiful picture seems to just fascinate my preschoolers. And I am pretty sure they think Daddy has super-powers because he's quite skilled at getting them done quickly. Sure, Sophie and Xander like little wooden puzzles meant for infants and toddlers, but they would much rather take on puzzles that are a bit more complicated. Sophie does surprisingly well for her age, and Xander basically just observes. He will be fitting pieces into puzzles in no time though, I am sure. So when I learned about the brand new, 3D interactive puzzle games from Popar Toys, I just knew my kids would love them. We have one of their augmented reality 3D story books, and it never ceases to amaze my kids. Seeing the story come to life, literally, is pretty neat. (I wish my books and puzzles could do that when I was a child!) Anyway, the folks over at Popar Toys have taken their expertise in all things 3D and have created seven different puzzles that are bound to be the hit of any party. The titles include: Basketball Football Soccer Construction Picnic Planets Princess You see, these are not ordinary puzzles at all. Sure, you construct them like an ordinary puzzle, but that's when the fun begins. The real magic happens after the puzzle is completed! So unlike an ordinary puzzle, these come with tons of play value and hours of fun, even after the puzzle is done. How does it work? Well, it's simple! Yes, you will need an mobile device, such as an Apple or Android phone or tablet. There is a free app you can download, and this allows the puzzle to become 3D and completely interactive! As a matter of fact, the Princess 3D Interactive Puzzle Game already won the Summer 2013 Tillywig Toy & Media Awards. Here’s what the judges said about why it won: “…Popar has just added a line of premium puzzles that utilize their special technology, giving this traditional play medium new life. Just download and open the free app and point your mobile device at the assembled puzzle. A princess springs to life before your eyes, waving, twirling, or dancing atop the puzzle surface according to directions chosen via an onscreen menu. The princess's appearance is customizable. Choose from a variety of skin tones, eye colors, hair styles and colors, as well as dress patterns, styles, and prints. You can save and load your newly personalized princess to the play section of the app for round after round of fun and action. A variety of effects can also be activated, ranging from a 3D castle to snow, rain, and circle or diamond confetti swirling down over the princess and her tableau.” How cool is that!? We got the opportunity to try a couple of these puzzles out for ourselves. We chose the 100 Piece Princess Interactive Puzzle Game and the 300 Piece Planets Interactive Puzzle Game. Princess 3D Interactive Puzzle Game : The kids were thrilled to see a beautiful princess castle puzzle, and they helped their Daddy put it together. Both toddlers were actually able to make a few pieces fit, as this is definitely an easier puzzle due to the fact that the colors are very vibrant. We have found like puzzles that contain a lot of one specific color tend to me more difficult. (As you will see when I talk about the Planets puzzle!) Here is the finished puzzle. I just love how colorful and cheery it is! Now for the fun part. Since our puzzle was complete, we were able to grab my iPhone and make it come to life in dazzling 3D. It's really neat because kids can make this kingdom into a world of their own. They can change the weather, design the princess' dresses and hairstyles, and even make them twirl and dance! Planets 3D Interactive Puzzle Game : The Planets 3D Interactive Puzzle was a bit more challenging. My husband and 13 year old assembled this one. It is 300 pieces, but is fairly difficult because there is so much black and blue found in the night sky. My guys love a challenge though, so they were happy that it was a bit more complex than the Princess puzzle. When the puzzle was complete, there a gorgeous, colorful depiction of our solar system emerged, complete with scientific facts about the planets and space. So yes, this puzzle is educational, and wonderful for any kids who are interested in science! Once again, we were eager to see how this puzzle came to life. I was amazed by the results! As you can see, the planets seem to jump off of the puzzle board, and you can even select a celestial body and discover more about it. Overall, we are absolutely loving the 3D Interactive Puzzle Games from Popar Toys. They are so much fun to put together, and watching them come to life is a great reward for a job well done. My babies love the Princess puzzle the best, mainly because they can design dresses and make the ladies dance, but they were also very intrigued by the Planets puzzle. I think this will become a valuable teaching tool to show them all about the universe we live in. I would definitely recommend these great puzzle games from Popar Toys. They not only give puzzles a whole new spin, they're also great for hand-eye coordination and problem solving. Definitely on my must-have list for the upcoming Holiday season!
