![]() My 3 kids are rambunctious. They love to climb all over things, jump, play, and perform other death-defying feats as I watch in horror and try to catch them in time. My daughter, Sophie, is only 2 and a half, but she's the most daring of them all. Sophie thinks it's hilarious to run back and forth at top speed along our sectional sofa, spinning at the same time. As much as we try and get her to stop, it's always short-lived. She also loves to climb. I caught her attempting to scale a bookshelf the other day, and I almost suffered a cardiac event. Thankfully, she got down and my blood pressure went back to normal rather quickly. The truth of the matter is, when you have kids, accidents happen. Fortunately, we haven't had any injuries here...Yet. It's only a matter of time. Although Sophie seems to think she has super-hero powers, she is in fact a little girl, and by no means invincible. (Hopefully she'll realize this fact sooner than later!) One way I stay prepared for the unexpected accident is by keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet and first aid kit. I keep every treatment under the sun from alcohol pads, peroxide, activated charcoal, bandages, a tourniquet, gloves, a CPR shield, and much, much more. Let's just say I have a make-shift ER in a big box. Okay, maybe not literally, but it seems that way. My husband says I am overly paranoid, but with kids, it pays to be prepared! Recently, I learned about a great product that should be included in any first aid kit. BloodSTOP, made by the folks at LifeScience, is a natural, biocompatible, non-irritating, animal-free hemostatic agent which resembles traditional gauze. Using a proprietary formulation, cotton cellulose is etherized and oxidized to make a highly absorbent, water-soluble, hemostatic matrix. Its composition provides certain advantages for natural rapid hemostasis as well as patient comfort and improved wound management when compared with traditional adhesive bandages, sprays, chemical powder, or animal-based products. In plain English? Using BloodSTOP helps control bleeding in wounds rapidly, minimizing blood loss. This can be used on cuts, scrapes, and even for a nosebleed. The product works in about 60 seconds or less, and is easy to use. There aren't any adhesives, so removal is quick and painless. You can cut BloodSTOP to the perfect size, and is safe to use on people of all ages. How Does BloodSTOP Work? When applied to a wound, BloodSTOP quickly absorbs blood and other body fluids, transforms into a gel to seal the wound with a protective transparent layer, actively aids in blood coagulation, and creates an environment for wound healing. ![]() Thankfully, I haven't had any major injuries yet to test this product on. I was worried I wouldn't be able to test it at all! No one was getting hurt here. (Which is a good thing, of course, but doesn't make it easy to review a product!) I was a bit concerned that nothing would happen that would allow me to try BloodSTOP. And then it happened. Nope, it wasn't one of my kids, surprisingly enough. It was ME! You see, I tend to rush while showering and shaving. As the mom of 2 toddlers, I never get a chance to do anything at a relaxing pace. So I was in the shower, shaving my legs, and I swore I heard one of my babies cry out. I jumped, and the razor blade took a huge strip of skin off of my calf. Ouch! It hurt like crazy, and was bleeding quite a bit. So I hopped out of the shower with blood pouring down my leg, and I grabbed the BloodSTOP. Once I dried my skin, I applied the BloodSTOP directly to my gushing wound. Within about 45 seconds, the bleeding had stopped and there was a seal over the wound itself. No Band-Aid could accomplish this! I was actually shocked, since shaving injuries can be the worst, especially when they're large and deep. Overall, I am very impressed with the performance of BloodSTOP. I plan on keeping this awesome product in my first aid kit from now on. I am so glad that this product, which was available only to surgeons for years, has now been released to the public. This is useful, convenient, and very effective. It's sure to be a lifesaver! BloodSTOP is available at drugstores nationwide. ***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples for my review. No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.***
