![]() Anyone who knows me knows (probably all too well) that I am a huge advocate of cloth-diapering. Not only is it the more environmentally responsible choice to cloth-diaper my babies, it is a HUGE money-saver, too! I have two babies well under the age of 2. Can you imagine what the cost of disposables for two very different sized babies would be? OUCH! On one income, that would be a huge expense! One that this family, like many, could not comfortably afford. So when we found out we were pregnant AGAIN when my daughter was just shy of 4 months old, switching to cloth diapers was inevitable. Once we started learning more about cloth and debunking the common stereotypes, it was a change we made with great enthusiasm! There are so many great cloth options out there, and in so many different prints and colors and fabrics. I was so glad to see that modern cloth is more than simply prefolds and squeaky plastic pants! We have been using cloth for over a year now, and it's official: I am a FLUFF ADDICT! I love cloth-diapering and am always excited to try new systems and brands. I usually use One Size pocket diapers, since with 2 babies this is the most economical choice for us, but I also like having some good fitteds and covers on hand as well. That's why I was so excited when I got the opportunity to review Sandy's System from Mother-Ease cloth diapers! I had read many reviews of this wonderful LEAK-FREE diapering system, and I was eager to put this claim to the ultimate test: My super-heavy wetting toddler! Before I get into my review, let me tell you more about the award winning Sandy's System from the trusted folks at Mother-Ease. Sandy's System consists of 3 different parts: A SUPER soft and stretchy fitted diaper, an equally soft Sandy's cloth diaper liner that is comfortable against baby's delicate skin, and a specially designed cover. The Air Flow™ Snap Cover is available in several fun eco-themed prints as well as a few reliable solids. These cloth diapers are made from the same soft stretchy terry cloth Mother-Ease is famous for, but they have an extra layer of absorbent terry sewn to the inside of the diaper. The fit of the cloth diaper is slightly roomier. Elastic at the waist front and back as well as the leg openings, together with the snap closures at the sides create a clean pant-like look. A serged edge finishes the diaper. The large Sandy’s™ cloth diaper is one of the most absorbent cloth diapers ever, and holds a whopping 15 oz. When used together with the Sandy’s™ Cloth Diaper Liners it makes an extravagant nighttime cloth diaper. My Experience: I have to say, I am definitely impressed with the Sandy's System! Not only are the fabrics in the fitted diaper and liner incredibly soft, they are very absorbent as well. I wish I had bath towels made of this wonderful terry cloth! It has such a luxurious feel to it! First, after prepping the diapers as directed by Mother-Ease, I allowed Sophie to play wearing JUST the Sandy's Fitted Diaper. Brave of me to let her go coverless, don't you agree? But what better way to really test the effectiveness of this product? Sophie played for well over 2 hours in JUST the fitted diaper with the liner placed in it, and while she did tinkle quite a bit, the outside of this diaper was not damp. Which in my book, is pretty darn amazing! Most fitteds do not hold up against the "Sophie Tsunami" on their own. With no layer of PUL, I wouldn't expect them to. But the Sandy's Fitted Diaper passed the test. However, just to be on the safe side, I don't think going without a cover will be a regular occurrence in my home. I don't want to anger the Cloth-Diaper-Gods or disturb the natural order of things, lol. Here's Sophie in JUST the Sandy's Fitted Diaper: (It's not the best picture, since she was so busy jumping on her Pillow Pet and running around, I could not get her to hold still!) ![]() Sandy's Diapers come in a rainbow of fun, vibrant colors! I cannot say enough good things about the Sandy's Fitted Diaper. It turns out, many other moms agree that these are superior diapers for daytime and are even fantastic for night time use when paired with the Air-Flow Cover! These wonderful diapers even won the PTPA Seal Of Approval in 2009! While I received the standard white diaper to review, these diapers also come in a vibrant rainbow of color options for a small additional charge. Just look at the Aqua colored diaper! I LOVE this color! It's perfect for the summer time, and is completely gender neutral. Guess I will have to add this to my Cloth-Diapering Wish List! ![]() Check out their latest print! I LOVE this one! The next component of the Sandy's System I would like to talk about is the specially designed Air Flow Cover. Finally! A leak-free cloth diaper cover that refuses to compromise breathability! The folks over at Mother-Ease searched for over a year to find just the right fabric that would meet their stringent quality standards. The fabric needed to be soft, durable and waterproof. The Air Flow™ Snap Cover, with adjustable snaps at the waist and leg openings has an air ventilation system between the snaps. This allows for maximum air circulation as baby moves, reducing the risk of bacteria by keeping the temperature inside the diaper down. And, unlike Velcro, the curious baby can’t undo them, so they stay on until you take them off. This is a HUGE plus for us, since Sophie is just now learning how to take some of her diapers off. True story, Cliff's Notes Version: I was busy cleaning the other day, and I heard Sophie laughing hysterically in her playpen. I looked over, and there she was, in all her naked glory, waving her diaper around like a lasso. What did I learn? I cannot use Aplix diapers anymore unless she is in a one piece outfit that she cannot get out of. Thankfully, the diaper she was insanely waving did not contain poop, but still, it was alarming to see her naked as a jaybird! It's nice to know that she can not get this cover undone. Mother-Ease gets some major brownie points from me on this one! I tested this complete system 5 times overnight, and after each use, washed it immediately so I could use it again. I wanted to make sure I could get an accurate opinion, and one use just isn't enough to testify to the ongoing performance of a product. I am happy to say, in 5 very heavy wetting nights, 2 of which included poop as well, this diapering system DID NOT LEAK. Not once! And Sophie's skin was surprisingly dry, as well. I think this has something to do with the unique air-vents in the cover. It kept the fresh air circulating and she didn't get any irritation of dampness on her skin. Don't get me wrong, the diaper was FULL. It must have weighed a good 5lbs or so. But her skin was eerily dry! I think this is one of the best nighttime diapering solutions on the market, and I suspect that in using Sandy's System, I will see a lot less diaper rashes! My babies don't get them often, but when they do, it's difficult to treat as most diaper rash creams are not cloth-diaper friendly and can actually leave a build-up on cloth that can cause them to repel rather than absorb. NOT GOOD! With this unique air-flow system, there is a lot less moisture to irritate the skin, which makes for a happier, healthier, comfier baby! (And, I will be honest, a happier baby also means a happier, more relaxed, more SANE Mommy!) One thing I will point out is that this system is a bit bulkier than some of the pocket diapers I am accustomed to using. But being a 3-part system, that's to be expected. And it's not TOO bulky. I can still easily fit clothing over this with no issues. I don't feel that the slight bulkiness deters from this diapering system at all. I actually love the little "Fluff-Booty" my kids get in diapers when I double stuff them. Mother-Ease actually has a new OS diaper, the Wizard UNO that I would love to try, as well. This awesome new all-in-one diaper has a much slimmer fit to it, if the bulkier nature of fitteds and covers is something you're not a fan of. And the prints are to DIE for, too! This is definitely going on my Must Try list! Anyway, here is Sophie wearing the complete Sandy's System, including their amazing Air-Flow cover: Overall, I think that the Sandy's System from Mother-Ease is a definite must have for nighttime diapering. I have tried MANY different brands and diapering combinations, and I only have a few that I prefer. This system is on that very short list. If you have a heavy wetter, or a baby that is prone to rashes due to inadequate air-flow, or if you simply want to give your baby the softest, plushest diaper ever, give Mother-Ease a try! You definitely won't be disappointed!
