***Disclosure: We were guests at the Akron Premier of SMALLFOOT, which was specifically for the kids at LeBron James Family Foundation's IPROMISE school. All experiences, opinions, and thoughts are 100% my own, and do not reflect those of the sponsors of this event.***
One of my favorite things about living in the NE Ohio area is the fact that we get to attend some really cool events sometimes. Hey, this area is rich in local flavor, and we've even got some amazing tourist attractions, like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Great Lakes Science Center, and of course, the Cleveland MetroParks.
Another perk of living in "The Land?" Well, right next door in Akron, OH, amazing things are happening. You see, there was once this kid from Akron who grew up to win championships, bring enthusiasm back into Cleveland sports, and of course, this kid from Akron is also giving back to his community in a big, bad way. In fact, he's helping to change lives and shape bright futures. As you've probably guessed, that "Kid from Akron" I'm talking about is the one and only LeBron James, AKA King James. Sure, he may have left Cleveland, but his heart and influence are still very much alive here in my area. LeBron's I PROMISE School is helping families and at risk youth stay on track, offering the chance at quality educations, and even the promise of higher education for those who work hard and stay dedicated to achieving greatness. There's also help for I PROMISE families should they need food assistance, transportation to and from the school, and there's even programs to help ensure parents are able to provide for their families, via career training, GED programs, etc. This is really such a gift for these at-risk kids, and the community as a whole.
Since LeBron is incredibly committed to the families at Akron's I PROMISE school, he was able to set up a very special, very exclusive premier of his latest film, SMALLFOOT, right here in Akron, Ohio! LeBron voices Gwangi, and other talent includes Zendaya, Channing Tatum, Danny DeVito, and Common, just to name a few. This movie opens in theaters September 28, 2018, and is sure to be a HUGE hit!
We were lucky enough to be guests at this fun-filled event, and we had a great time. The kids got to play in this fun "Yeti-Land" that included a foam machine, balls to throw and play with, and Migo was even there to help celebrate this animated feature! Of course, plenty of families from the LeBron James Family Foundation were in attendance, too, and it was great being able to mingle with them and hear them talk about how LeBron's dedication to community has helped put their families on the path to a brighter future. Really, guys...LeBron has touched the lives of so many, and seeing all those smiles at this premier? Well, let's just say I got a little teary just thinking about the good that's being done. After all, anyone can grow up to be anything they want....Even some kids from Akron. If you believe and work hard, you can achieve anything. I think LeBron is living proof of that! Check out my photos below:
We got to enjoy a special screening of SMALLFOOT, complete with drinks, candy, and plenty of popcorn.
This movie is really cute, and my whole family really enjoyed it...Even my 18 year old. That, my friends, says a lot. SMALLFOOT is about a civilization of Yetis, living high in the Himalayan Mountains, above the clouds and out of the view of human beings, AKA, Smallfoots. The Yeti have been told that Smallfoot doesn't exist, along with a lot of other lies, that were specifically crafted to keep them safe. But sometimes, staying safe isn't worth being ignorant of truth. Fear driven behavior, like unwillingness to question anything, can be detrimental to a society, as shown in this film when Migo finds a real life SMALLFOOT. Would his Yeti community believe him? Would they call him a liar? A Conspiracy Theorist? How would this discovery change the way the Yeti viewed their world? Could they just ignore this and blindly accept what they've always been told, or would this change their civilization forever? SMALLFOOT is filled with loads of humor and laughs, but it's got a lot of deeper meaning as well. I love movies that help kids build character, and SMALLFOOT is all about things like personal growth, challenging outdated norms that may not be serving us well, always questioning everything, and always looking more closely as a situation to find the deeper meaning. This film is all about the betterment of society, having empathy, making friends, and not judging a book by its cover. Check out the trailer below:
