WARNING: I am going to be talking about Aunt Flo..Menstruation..Or more commonly called, periods. I know this subject can make people queasy and is considered taboo in polite conversation. But let's face it, ladies: It happens to ALL of us. So when I find a product that makes the hassle of that monthly friend a little easier to cope with, I feel it's my duty to share!
Okay...Now that I've warned you...Let's talk about periods. They're different for everyone, but we all experience them. My periods have always been very regular, and were rather typical as far as flow and duration. Until after my last child was born, and I got my tubes tied. (Something I totally and completely regret, but that's a different post entirely!) After getting a tubal-ligation, my periods have been absolute Hell to deal with. They have been lasting longer than normal, and to put it politely, I have been bleeding like a stuck pig. I even get anemic around that time of the month and bruise really easily. Not to mention the mood swings, extreme cramping, and cravings for red meat. I have a few winners to announce! Woo-Hoo! This has to be my favorite part of being a blogger...I love feeling a bit like Santa Claus!
Thanks, as always, to everyone who took the time to enter. Winners have been notified via e-mail and have 48 hours to claim their prizes. Store Brand Formula: Andrew J. Jack & Lily: Kristi C. Everything Fairies: Sherry C. Zometool: Sandy V. Vitacost: Christie L. Thunderstruck: Cheryl A. Bailey Berry: Jennifer R. PetSmart: Jennifer K. My daughter, Sophie, is a total girly-girl. She always has to be wearing her "princess clothes", and she even insists on having me paint her finger and toes with various nail polishes. I let her choose the colors, so sometimes they match and sometimes...Well, not so much! Still, she is always happy to show off her "pretty fingernails" to anyone who will take notice. (Yes, she calls her toe nails fingernails, too. We're working on that!) But now that winter is here, she can't wear her cute little open-toed shoes and sandals. Let's face it: North-Eastern Ohio gets bitterly cold, and her cute little tootsies would turn into popsicles if she wore the shoes that allow her to showcase her painted toenails. That would make for a pretty unhappy, albeit stylish, little girl! And unhappy kids mean an unhappy Mommy! That's why I was so excited to discover Bobbi-Toads! These shoes, that just happen to have an adorable name, have cuteness to match in several fun, vibrant colors and styles. They come in both velcro and tie versions and range in size from 11-5. So these are fantastic for kids around 3+, depending on the size of the child, all the way through elementary school. The best part? They're specifically designed for fashionable girls who like the look of having painted toenails, even if their feet need to be covered to prevent frostbite! Yes. Bobbi-Toads have neat little "toes" with paintable nails! You can use any nail polish on them, but there is a great selection of Bobbi Polish on the Bobbi-Toads website that coordinates perfectly with all of their shoe designs. Mix, match, and do it all over again. Bobbi-Toads can be painted, and then the polish can be removed. This is a great way to encourage little girls to express their moods and emotions through the polish on their Bobbi-Toads! Sophie and Xander love Sesame Street...A LOT. It's so cute to watch them giggle and dance along with their favorite characters, and I especially love hearing my daughter squeal "EL-BO!!!!" whenever Elmo comes onto the screen. (Hey, she's about to turn 3 and can't say everything correctly yet. Hence the reason I am lovingly referred to as Mom-Bee.)
So naturally, when I heard that Sesame Street is coming here to the Cleveland area, live and in person, I was really excited! I know my kids are going to FREAK when they see the Sesame Street gang up close and personal on February 28th, which just happens to be opening night! Playing games is one of the best ways for children to learn and grow as people. Some games can build athletic skill, some coordination, and others increase mental stimulation. But no child plays games because they are good for them-they play them because they are fun. Neighbourhood kids can be often found playing a riveting game of hide and go seek, or tag in in the park. However, with daylight hours being few and far between during the winter season, and temperature dropping, outside playtime is not always an option. Indoor games include the very popular board games; unfortunately, these require multiple players and are not always a viable solution for busy families. A great game playing entertainment for your children is an online section of YTV called YTV games. YTV has been long known as a provider of quality television entertainment for youth. It is now the place for free online games for children. There are no expensive consoles or games to buy as everything on the site is free and available to play online at any time. These are accessible anyplace so the kids can quietly play their favourite game while visiting grandma and grandpa on the weekend. There are easily over a hundred of free kids’ games, online games, and flash games available, so the child could not possibly get bored. Some of the games provide a quick distraction while other may require a little more play. Children love playing games which include characters that they are already familiar with which is why YTV features dozens of games with popular personalities such as SpongeBob, Pokemon, iCarly, and Fairly Odd Parents among dozens of others. Any of these games can provide a great distraction during an especially blistery day, or when the child is unable to play with their friends. The users can also rate the games so you can easily tell which of them are more popular than others. The games are easy to play so the kids will not be discouraged with a steep learning curve. All of the games are visually appealing and stimulating so that the number one comment you will hear is that they want to play again. I must warn you, however, that some of the games, such as the cute Penguins of Madagascar, have been known to suck in more than one parent. So go ahead and share these fun, free games with your kids.
My youngest babies were both born right around the Holidays. Sophie, my soon-to-be 3 year old, was born on New Year's Eve. (Yeah, we're dreading her teenage years!) Xander, who is almost 2, was born on January 14th. So I spent quite a bit of time around the Holidays ready to pop. Like many expectant mamas, I tended to think more about my new additions than myself around the Holidays. I didn't care if I received gifts. I was far more interested in finding great things for my bundles of joy. I got more excited about cloth diapers, layette items, and baby care items than shoes, handbags, and other girly products I'd normally go gaga over. One of my all time favorite companies when it comes to baby care items is Burt's Bees. Okay, so I lied...They're actually one of my favorite companies for personal care items in general. They make amazing, natural products for the whole entire family! One of my favorites is their lip balm. But today I'd like to focus on their baby products. I don't know about you, but one of the things that annoys me the most is getting my hair dyed, looking amazing, and then noticing the color begin to fade after just a couple of weeks. I don't dye my hair often because I try and avoid the harsh chemicals in most hair coloring products as much as possible. To be realistic, I'd say I probably only dye my hair 2-3 times per year. Of course when I was pregnant, I didn't dye my hair at all. Since I had back-to-back babies, I spent the better part of 2 years looking like a frumpty-dumpty. My hair was so incredibly dull, and the roots were not the same color as the rest of my hair. (Not even close!) I have dark brown hair, but in the summer, it gets very red. So during pregnancy, the top half of my head was dark while the rest was red. It was very odd looking, and definitely not flattering in the least. But I dealt with it, because I knew that I wasn't supposed to dye my hair at that point in time, as the chemicals actually get absorbed and the babies could have been exposed to them. So when I got the chance to try the TouchBack Plus hair care system, I was pretty intrigued. This is a brand of haircare products I had not heard of before. And I am a total beauty junkie, so I always get super excited about something new. |
