The below content is sponsored by Sanofi Pasteur’s Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating. Every parent hopes to avoid dealing with head lice, but much like taxes, some things can’t always be avoided. In the United States alone, an estimated six to 12 million head lice infestations occur each year in school aged children. If you are facing head lice after your child returns home from camp, there are resources available to help! The Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice website is driven by experts who are also moms, so they get it. The site features basic information on the little critters like symptoms, diagnosis, prevention and treatment options, and a variety of tools including: • The How to Lose the Lice Guide, with a handy checklist to save time and reduce stress when battling head lice • The Headfirst! Lice Experience video allows you to choose your experience, whether it be you’re not sure you have lice, or you just want to get rid of them: It’s important to remember the most common way to spread head lice is head-to-head contact. Thinking ahead with things like teaching your child to avoid sharing brushes or hats is a good start.
So if you’re trying to get rid of head lice post-camp, or a parent who always likes to be prepared for next season, visit Headfirst! Expert Advice on Lice for more information. Have you heard of Disney's upcoming movie, "Saving Mr. Banks"? This is one that I am incredibly excited about. For one, Tom Hanks is in the film. (And who doesn't adore Tom Hanks?!) Also, this movie will show an entirely different side of Walt Disney himself. Yes, he was the mind behind the magic that is Disney, but he was also a husband and a father. I can't wait to see this movie in December! In the meantime, check out this awesome new poster! About Saving Mr. Banks : Two-time Academy Award®–winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s “Saving Mr. Banks,” inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the screen.
When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favorite book, P.L. Travers’ “Mary Poppins,” he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realize would take 20 years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation. For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. Armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. He soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history. Disney presents “Saving Mr. Banks,” directed by John Lee Hancock, produced by Alison Owen, Ian Collie and Philip Steuer, and written by Kelly Marcel and Sue Smith. Executive producers are Paul Trijbits, Andrew Mason, Troy Lum and Christine Langan. The film will release in U.S. theaters on December 13, 2013, limited, and open wide on December 20, 2013. I received product samples, a party kit, and a promotional item as a thank you for participating.*** Surprise, Kids! We're Having A Bomb Pop Party! Here in Ohio, it has been extremely hot recently. I don't mean your typical summer day hot, I mean "oh my gosh, my entire body is going to melt into a pile of unrecognizable goo" kind of hot. Of course the kids don't discriminate, and still want to play outside, even though they begin to sweat immediately. The kids don't seem to mind, but Mom and Dad are miserable! So since there has been no convincing the kiddos that air conditioning is their friend, we decided to surprise them with a party that would allow them to get their energy out with their friends and stay cool as well. We invited several of the neighborhood kids to the party, and had about 10 show up. Sadly, a couple of parents did not want their children's photos being published, but I respect and understand the desire for privacy. So while I have several photos to share, they don't include all of the kids in attendance. We got an awesome party package from the folks at Bomb Pop to help make our little gathering a success. Since Bomb Pop is an official sponsor of Little League Baseball and Softball, we had a sports themed party with baseball related activities. Since it was about 100 degrees, we also set up the kiddie pool and slip and slide, and threw up the bounce house for good measure. Let's face it: Every party needs a bounce house. ***Disclosure: I received complimentary products to facilitate my review through Old El Paso and MyBlogSpark. All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** One of my favorite things about this time of year is enjoying super fresh produce with my family. There's nothing better than fresh, locally sourced fruits and veggies. I actually attempted a garden this year for the first time, and I must have done something horribly wrong, because none of my seeds sprouted. (Guess I need Gardening for Dummies....Does that even exist?) So because I apparently have a Black Thumb, the farmer's market is a weekly stop for us. We have a couple of amazing ones here in the area, and there is never a shortage of delicious things to choose from. I love getting a large assortment of goods and incorporating them into our everyday meals. Recently, I picked up some tomatoes, cilantro, limes, lettuce, and some various peppers. I knew these ingredients would make some amazing chicken lime soft tacos with freshly made salsa. We love Mexican food, since there are so many yummy possibilities. Plus, many Mexican dishes can be made in minutes with the help of Old El Paso dinner kits, such as the Fajita Dinner Kit! Our chicken lime soft tacos were amazing, and so easy to make. Welcome to the Glass Dharma Straws Event!Sip the World Make a Difference with Glass Dharma StrawsSponsored by: Glass DharmaHosted by: Mom Powered Media, Powered by Mom, Mom to Bed by 8, Baby Costcutters & Mom Does ReviewsRead Powered by Mom's Review of the Glass Dharma Straws HEREI have actually never used glass straws, but the idea definitely intrigues me. I'd love to give these a try! About Glass Dharma Drinking Straws They are the brainchild of creator David Leonhardt a lampworker (glassblower) for over 15 years. When he and his wife moved to the Mendocino Coast he noticed when he was doing some work for a local glass shop in town that they had glass drinking straws. He had never seen them before but that what a unique and elegant idea that could help be a solution to reducing the plastics that are wasted and end up in our garbage! Did you know that according to McDonald's own website as of 2008 they serve an average of 52 million meals PER DAY! Which makes you wonder how many of those meals had a plastic straw come with it? Hmm yes it's a big problem but Glass Dharma has given has a beautiful item to be part of the solution! Here's why we should use glass straws
***Disclosure: I received absolutely no compensation for this review. I simply wanted to share an awesome experience and let all my NE OH friends know where they can go for great food and a rocking good time. All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** Anyone who knows me in real life is well aware of the fact that music has been a huge part of my life ever since I was a toddler. Some of my earliest memories are listening to my Dad's band practice tapes in the car and learning about great bands like The Doors, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and lesser known (but equally amazing) artists like Todd Rundgren, Yngwie Malmsteen, The Band, and Dream Theater. And of course, I often got to sit in on band practices, which was always really cool. Now, of course, I am old enough to be allowed into the establishments where my Dad plays, so I can be a real life groupie. Being the child of a musician definitely had it's perks, that's for sure. I was exposed to music of all genres and eras, and I gained a huge appreciation for the arts. I sing, play guitar and piano, and it seems my whole life has had a "soundtrack". My favorite music? Technically, I like it all. My music collection looks like that of a schitzophrenic. I may be giving away my age here just a wee bit, but I have always loved hard rock, metal, and old-school hair bands. (Right now I am pretty obsessed with Sonata Arctica, but that's another post entirely.) When Dan and I moved back to my hometown in Ohio last year, we were thrilled to learn that one of my favorite musicians not only comes from the Akron area, he actually owned an awesome restaurant and live music venue called Ripper Owens Tap House. (Yes, THAT Ripper Owens!) Sadly, we were only able to visit once before they closed. The food was awesome, though, and the crowd was friendly. A few months ago, a little birdie on Facebook told me that Tim "Ripper" Owens would be opening a new, amped-up venue in another location. Needless to say, Dan and I were thrilled and patiently awaited the grand opening, which just happened to be a couple of weeks ago. (Yay!) Tonight, we had the pleasure of visiting the brand new Ripper Owens Rock House located in Akron, Ohio. Even though it's a Monday and the place was anything but crowded, we had a blast, and I'd love to share our experience with you.
