For all the projects I’ve undergone on Long Island Homes, there’s a few that stand out specifically because the client had a consumer product that had me intrigued. And in most cases, it’s a green product. On my last day of what seemed like a never-ending project, I glanced over to see the homeowner wiping down their windows. Seeing as it was springtime, this was only appropriate! As I leaned over to inquire, I could clearly see the name of the product printed diagonally along the cloth - Gleen. Getting rid of dust and grime from around the home does not require the use of chemical cleaners that are expensive and harm the planet. There is a greener option that not only saves time when cleaning, but it can reduce the costs of cleaning materials while avoiding the use of potentially environmentally harmful substances. The microfiber green cloth, known as Gleen, is a revolutionary product that lets the homeowner clean glass or dust without additives. This saves the homeowner the cost of purchasing additional cleaning agents. Choosing Gleen means a reduction in the budget for cleaning supplies for the home. Avoiding chemical window cleaners and dusting agents also helps the homeowner to protect his family from exposure to the chemicals while helping the environment. Green Advantage Standard cleaning products may not always be the greenest choice. These use chemicals to enhance their cleaning power, but the warning labels on many of them indicate that these are not very safe for pets or children. Even the green cleaning solutions sold in stores may have cautionary labels regarding their use. All of these products require the use of petrochemicals in the manufacture of their plastic containers. If not recycled, these containers will end up in landfills for years. Rather than resorting to chemicals the Gleen cloth can be used without cleaning agents. This makes it safe for homes with children, pets, or those with sensitivities to cleaning products. Just a swipe across a dirty pane of glass is all that is needed to clean it. Gleen can also be used as a dusting cloth for other surfaces. With its multiple uses, every homeowner should be able to find a use for a Gleen cloth. Unlike chemical cleaners, Gleen cloths are reusable. Just toss the cloth into the washing machine and dry it thoroughly before using it again. As a reusable product, Gleen cloths help to reduce waste in landfills, but should the cloth become torn or severely worn, it will biodegrade over time in a landfill. Gleen cloths are the newest innovation in cleaning. These products help to protect the environment and home from questionable chemicals. Anyone interested in making his home healthier and cleaner while saving money on cleaning supplies should take a look at the Gleen cloth. A visit to their website will provide more information.

Big News! Naturepedic and Lullaby Earth, manufacturers of baby and children's mattresses and accessories, have achieved GREENGUARD "Select" Certification.The GREENGUARD "Select" certification program encompasses all Naturepedic products, as well as the new Lullaby Earth crib mattress line.
The new GREENGUARD "Select" Certification Program is a more stringent program for low chemical emissions. Per GREENGUARD, "Participating in this elite program demonstrates market leadership in minimizing chemical exposures from products." For more information, visit www.naturepedic.com, www.lullabyearth.com, or www.greenguard.org I am so excited about the next sponsor for my G is for Green event. All month, we've talked about great ways to go green and help the environment, even when it comes to baby. We've seen some great cloth-diapering options, some amazing feeding supplies that come from recycled materials and even allow you to make your fresh, organic baby foods. We've even touched on ways to outfit Mom and baby in the hottest organic styles. My last sponsor spotlight featured the ever-so-amazing Naturepedic 2 in 1 Ultra Organic Cotton Crib Mattress that grows with your child and offers a perfectly comfortable, non-toxic night's sleep. Naturally, I wanted something extra special to feature in the way of organic crib bedding to go along with such a fantastic sleep surface. What good is the perfect mattress without some ultra-cozy sheets to snuggle up on? My next sponsor, Clouds and Stars, offers just that with their revolutionary Quick Zip Organic Crib Starter Set. I have to say, these sheet sets are the most ingenious thing to hit the market in quite some time! But before I show you the product that will change the way you look at bedding forever, I would love to tell you a bit more about this amazing company. Clouds and Stars is a company founded by Moms like you! Elizabeth and Joan created the Quick Zip sheet set when they, like most first time moms, were juggling all the demands of parenthood. With feedings, diaper changes, tantrums, spills and more, they wanted to find a way to make their lives a little bit easier when it came to changing crib bedding. They were tired of man-handling a mattress, untying and reapplying crib bumpers, and spending a good 20 minutes doing something that ought to take a few seconds in a perfect world. That's when Elizabeth had what I like to call an "Ah-Hah Moment". She asked one question that changed their lives forever: "Why can't you just change the top?" Joan and Elizabeth were inspired. They worked tirelessly to create a way to do just that. Joan sewed the first Quick Zip prototype and a local seamstress perfected it. Clouds and Stars was born, and has seen great success. They have been featured in Good Housekeeping magazine, and have become a much loved participant in many industry shows. So loved that One Step Ahead just had to have these products in their catalog. Today, Quick Zip Sheets can be found at many major retailers, such as Target, Toys R Us, and more! Why choose Clouds and Stars? Let's face it: Babies need their bedding changed constantly, and this can be a time consuming, inconvenient ordeal. Who wants to muscle a crib mattress just to get a fitted sheet on it? Often, this requires undoing all bumper ties, lifting the mattress out of the crib, securing the sheet, and putting it back into the crib. Sure, this is something we just do, almost mindlessly. I usually had my husband do it because the whole process was difficult for me, being short and having short arms. But what if I told you there was a lightning fast, easier alternative to this ho-hum routine? Many parents are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of choosing organic and natural products for their families. With so many recent scares involving harsh chemicals, pesticides, preservatives, GMO's, and more, going green just makes sense. In my home, we eat organic foods whenever possible, we use natural household products and cleaning supplies, we use organic personal care products, and we even buy organic clothing every chance we get. I also cloth-diaper my kids unless we're traveling or they're being left with sitters that aren't fluff-friendly. These green lifestyle choices give me peace of mind, since I know my children aren't being exposed to anything questionable that could potentially be harmful in any way. While choosing organic when it comes to food, cleaners and clothing is becoming increasingly popular in our society, I bet you didn't know you can go green in the nursery, too! There is organic crib bedding available, and even organic crib mattresses. Yes, I said organic crib mattresses. How cool is that?! I wasn't even aware of these choices until I discovered Naturepedic. Naturepedic is an amazing, eco-friendly company that offers greener choices when it comes to a good night's sleep. First thing I love about this company is that their products are made right here in the USA. In Chagrin Falls, OH, to be exact! Now I grew up right down the road from them in Cuyahoga Falls, so I have to show my hometown pride. Good things come from Ohio. You've got the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Step2 company, Cincinnati Chili, Cedar Point, and now a fabulous company like Naturepedic! But other than being based in the much loved Buckeye state, Naturepedic is pretty darn amazing. I would go as far as saying they're revolutionizing the way parents look at a basic, baby necessity: The crib mattress. New babies spend 10-14 hours a day sleeping, if not more. So a crib mattress is something that is in constant contact with baby. It's something that we, as parents, often take for granted. We automatically assume our crib mattresses are safe. Well, unfortunately, this isn't always the case. Conventional mattresses can contain a whole host of questionable ingredients, from vinyl, PVC, to chemicals used as fire retardants. They can also contain known allergens, such as latex, wool, and other chemicals that can cause reactions in humans. So as far as babies are concerned, it's best to err on the side of caution and choose an organic crib mattress. An Amazon Kindle Fire is being given away by the composite decking company Fiberon! (more details available here)a Decking giveaway powered by Rafflecopter Babies tend to have very delicate, and often sensitive skin. I know my son Xander does. I cannot use traditional baby wipes on him, as they cause him to break out in an uncomfortable rash more often than not. I have to use plain water to rinse him, cloth wipes, or wipes specifically formulated for babies with sensitive skin. While I am at home, I generally use cloth or plain old water. On the go, that's not always convenient. So when we're traveling, running errands, or leave the kids with a sitter, I turn to Earth's Best. Their Sensitive Chlorine-Free Baby Wipes are super-gentle on baby's skin. They are specially made with oat oil, shea butter lotion and vitamin E to keep your baby's bottom clean and smooth. They are chlorine free, hypo-allergenic, unscented, alcohol free and never tested on animals. They also come in a very convenient, ultra-portable package that fits into any diaper bag with ease. My son has never had a reaction to these wipes, and I love that they are free of harsh chemicals. Another great product for babies with sensitive skin are the Earth's Best Nursery Wipes. These Nursery Wipes safely keep cribs, baby’s strollers, car seats and nursery clean with chlorine-free, cleansing wipes. They are perfect for easy dispensing and are available in a 50ct canister. These are wonderful, since it reduces irritants on all of the surfaces baby comes into contact with on a regular basis. There's no need to worry about harmful, chemical laden residues rubbing off on baby. We keep a stash of these in the babies' bedroom, in the kitchen, in our family room, and even in our vehicles! So if you have a baby with sensitive skin like I do, or you just want to be mindful of the substances your little one is exposed to, definitely check out these products. They're effective, convenient, and safe. To learn more about Earth's Best, visit their website. I personally choose organic foods whenever possible, not only for my toddlers, but for the rest of my family, too. (Including my pets!) I know many of you are very excited that The Original Baby Bullet is a part of my G is for Green event. I'm pretty excited, too! I have already received tons of enthusiastic e-mails and comments telling me how amazing this system looks. Now I would love to tell you, in more detail, how this system can help you make pure, organic baby food in mere seconds. This not only saves you time and a ton of money, it also means you are in complete control over what is going into your child's body. The Baby Bullet is also an eco-friendly option, since it reduces waste by offering reusable storage containers for the food you make. I received The Original Baby Bullet to try in my home. I have made baby foods before, but it has always been a messy and inconvenient process. I was using a plain old food processor to puree foods that I previously boiled or steamed. While this method worked, it was not the quickest or most convenient method. So when my Baby Bullet arrived, I eagerly read the instructions, which are easy to understand, and went to work! The Original Baby Bullet comes with everything you need to make baby food. Here's what you get: This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. Never! had the pleasure of reviewing the Shaklee cleaning and laundry line of products. Here are her thoughts... "I was excited to try Shaklee's products. I had heard of them for years, but never had the chance to use them till now. When I opened the package I was a bit shocked to see the small amount of concentrated cleaner that the different products used. I received a large bottle of the concentrated cleaner, but only had to mix a small amount. After using main stream cleaners, I am used to having to use LOTS of chemicals in order to get the results I wanted and with Shaklee products you only use a very small amount of leaner to get fantastic results! I thought to myself that there was no way that such a small amount of cleaner could be effective. I waited 'till after cooking dinner, when my kitchen counters were messy to test the Shaklee all purpose cleaner... the results were great! I really appreciated that a little goes a long way with all of the products that I tried. Another notable point... no harsh chemical smell... no heavy scrubbing either. The products just work! Ever since we made a decision as a family to consider the environment and our health in general in our everyday choices, my eyes have been opened to how important it is to make sure that we know what is in {and what is not in} the things we purchase. Shaklee understands how important this is. Two thumbs up to Shaklee! The Giveaway- Two lucky winners get to try Shaklee in their home. One winner will get a Get Clean Starter Kit {
