Unless you haven't been keeping up with the latest trends in haircare or beauty, chances are you have heard of Viviscal. It has been featured in so many places lately, and has even been endorsed by Dr. Oz, Tabatha Coffee, and Reese Witherspoon as a must-have product to promote healthy, lustrous hair. If you're not familiar with Viviscal, I would love to introduce you to this revolutionary product that's literally taking the world by storm! Viviscal is an all-natural, drug-free supplement that is specifically formulated to promote healthy hair growth. Many people, even women, suffer from thinning hair and even hair loss. This is an issue that knows no age and no race. Many women suffer from hair loss during and after pregnancy. I had this problem, myself! Thankfully, I have a ton of very thick hair so it's not too noticeable to anyone but me. But it seemed that back-to-back pregnancies wreaked absolute havoc on my hair's fullness and overall condition. Other reasons for hair loss can be due to stress, environmental factors, poor nutrition, and even diseases like Alopecia. Thinning hair can be a huge confidence killer, and can even be traumatic for those suffering from it. Rather than forcing people to seek out chemical-laden hair loss treatments, the folks at Lifes2Good, the makers of Viviscal has taken matters into their own hands by offering a completely safe, all-natural answer to this embarrassing problem. The best part? Even if you don't suffer from hair loss, it can make your hair shinier, fuller, and more vibrant than you ever imagined possible! I am not trying to stir up any negativity here. Really, I am not. Admittedly, I am a Republican. A far more liberal one than most, but a Republican nonetheless. I also identify myself as being a Christian, but I do not subscribe to any organized religion or frequent one specific church. Why? How can I make these claims? Watch this video. It explains everything I feel, better than I could ever hope to. Yesterday, March 22, 2012, was World Water Day. I have a confession to make. I hate water. No, really. I HATE water. Unless it's bottled and ice cold, of course. I also love bottled sparkling waters with fruit flavoring. It fools my body into thinking I am drinking soda, even though I'm not. For a recovered soda addict, this is very important! There's just something about tap water that irks me. Most of the tap water I have tried has a funny, almost chemical/metallic taste to it, and that's not exactly pleasant. Water's not supposed to have an aftertaste, you know? Of course I have been drinking water anyway, even if it does make me gag. Drinking the right amount of water each day is so important . It keeps the body hydrated, can help manage weight, and even does wonders for the hair, skin and nails. So obviously, the benefits of drinking water far outweigh the ick factor I associate with tap water, so I have just been dealing with it. Begrudgingly so. That's why I was so excited to get the opportunity to try the ZeroWater Pitcher. This is a unique water filtration system that's housed in a convenient, space-saving 10 cup pitcher. It comes with a great filter that removes all impurities from your water, making it clean, crisp, and refreshing. Without any funky flavors or aftertaste. Using the ZeroWater Pitcher water tastes exactly like water should! Here's how it works, as seen on the ZeroWater website: Enjoy pure-tasting water with the latest filter pitcher technology. The ZeroWater filtration system combines FIVE sophisticated technologies that work together to remove virtually all dissolved solids from your tap water, delivering you great tasting water. This 10-cup system comes with, our patented Ion Exchange filter, a laboratory-grade water testing meter and a guarantee to remove virtually all dissolved solids from your tap water. ZeroWater’s first layer of filtration, activated carbon and oxidation reduction alloy removes the chlorine taste you are accustom to with tap water. The Ion Exchange stage removes virtually all dissolved solids that may be left over from public water systems or even leached into your water from piping such as Aluminum, Lead, Zinc, Nitrate and more. Three additional stages are included to remove other impurities and to ensure your water receives the appropriate amount of treatment time to deliver a “000” reading on your laboratory-grade Total Dissolved Solids meter included. ZeroWater: Advanced water filtration. This system even has a handy tool to check your local water's quality rating. Using this TDA meter, you can see how your water measures up to the FDA's quality standards as well as compare with other parts of the country. It's actually really cool! The FDA recommended reading is 000 (what you get with the ZeroWater Pitcher!) and the EPA Maximum is a whopping 500. That would be some filthy, nasty water! Eww! Using the TDA meter, I learned that while I hated the taste of our water, it's actually very, very good by FDA standards. Our water measured a mere 071. I guess maybe my taste buds are just super-duper sensitive? Another very cool thing about the ZeroWater Pitcher is that it can be used 2 ways. You can pour like an ordinary pitcher, or you can slide it easily into your refrigerator and use it to dispense water straight from the shelf! How convenient is that?! The ZeroWater Pitcher doesn't take up a whole lot of space, and it fit into my fridge with no problems whatsoever. Take a look at the different dispensing options! Let's face it: As women, we all love to shop. Whether it be at a fancy boutique or department store, at a super-center, or even at a locally owned Mom and Pop store, women can shop their butts off and drive their poor husbands crazy, all at the same time. (That's just an added bonus!) Yes, it's great to be a girl! Aside from shopping, there's another thing that most women love to take part in. We do it every single day. Maybe even obsessively. Whether it be the simple click of a "like" button, a tweet, a share, or a DM, social networking has become THE way we stay connected with the world around us. I know I spent far too much time on sites like Facebook, twitter, Google+ and Pinterest. Chances are, you do, too! My husband totally doesn't get my need to like a status or join a twitter party. This need to network may also drive our husbands bonkers. Again, total added bonus! What if I told you there was a new way to combine your love of shopping with your love of all things social? Sound too good to be true? Well, it isn't! Maggies Direct is the hottest thing to hit the net since...well...the net itself! This is a unique online shopping experience that allows you to purchase some of the best products for the home at fantastic prices. At Maggies Direct, their inventory is always growing and changing, so you're always bound to find something you love at a bargain price. Social Bucks are earned credits that can be used towards merchandise on Maggies Direct, even sale and clearance items! Each Buck is worth $1, and there are a lot of ways you can earn them. For example, if you make a purchase with Maggies, you'll earn one Social Buck for every $10 spent. You can also refer friends to Maggies and earn Social Bucks that way! You can also earn credits for sharing on Facebook, liking a page, signing up for their exclusive newsletter and more! No catch, no gimmicks, just a great rewards system that adds up quickly. How cool is that?! Right now there are some awesome deals on the Hotel Collection at Maggies Direct. Anything you purchase will earn you 50% back in Social Bucks! There are no minimum purchase amounts to adhere to, either. This is an amazing deal! As an example: Our Queen Warmer level comforter has a normal MSRP of $239 plus shipping. Maggies Direct normally retails this comforter for $149 for the equivalent material and same factory here in Maine. Then the customer gets 50% back in Social bucks or $74. Okay, so you all know I am basically willing to dish about anything here. I have no shame. I have talked about my love life, menstrual products, and even the benefits of probiotics for digestive health. As the mom of 2 toddlers, I also often talk about poop. Hey, I review a lot of cloth diapers, so it can't really be avoided! Today, I am talking about poop some more! This time it's in the context of potty-training. My 2 year old, Sophie, is in the beginning stages of potty-training. We have been working with her for the past couple of months, and I think she finally understands the concept that pee-pee and poopy go into the potty, not into her pants. Now, that doesn't mean she's actually listening. See, my little diva is stubborn. She will sit on the potty during "naked time". (Yes, this really does help!) She will physically go get her potty. She will put her stuffed monkey on the potty and shout "Poop! Poop!" But alas, she has not actually DONE anything in her potty yet. Good things come to those who wait, though, and potty-training is a process that can take months. In the end, all the hard work pays off, and a child's self-esteem goes through the roof. It's a win-win situation all around! I have been trying to find fun and stimulating new ways to entice Sophie to give her potty a chance. I have gotten several DVDs that we watch daily. She loves these, but they don't seem to be producing any results just yet. We do the Potty Dance, and while it's fun, again, no results. I personally can't stand the Potty Dance song because it gets stuck in my head and I find myself singing it in the grocery store line. Imagine the odd looks I get! While these are all helpful training tools, I decided I needed something more. Something to make the whole experience more pleasant for my daughter. One thing I noticed when Sophie poops is that she says things like "yucky poop" and "P-U". So I got to thinking maybe it's the smell she doesn't like! Let's face it: Poop stinks. None of us excrete roses. (Although I know a few stuck-up people who think they do, but that's another post entirely!) Even though toddler poop is little, mini poop, it still has a big, bad stench. That's when I discovered Super Dooper Pooper by the makers of Poo-Pourri. Yes, this is a real product. It has a clever, comical name, but the product itself is ingenious and helps make the business of using the restroom less stinky, for both the pooper and the unsuspecting person waiting to use the bathroom next! Put away your gas masks! Super Dooper Pooper to the rescue! So what is Super Dooper Pooper and how does it work? Simple! This is a spray designed especially for toddlers. Choose the color of your spray – pink or blue – from this 2-ounce bottle of calming aromatherapy. Spray into potty, wait for child to “go,” then flush and enjoy the scent of grapefruit, orange and ylang-ylang. Caregiver and child both avoid any stinky smells associated with the potty. Grapefruit and orange oils develop a calming and uplifting effect (parents can really use positive stress relievers) while ylang-ylang offers a calming property to help with potty training. Imagine ahhhhh instead of eeeeww! It also comes with a hardback potty training book called "Scout the Super Dooper Pooper" by Aya Bridges and a potty success chart! Reading this fun book before and during potty time is a great way to motivate little stinkers to make a poopy in the potty rather than their diapers or training pants. The chart is a good way to visually show them their progress and encourage them to be confident and proud. Pooping can be hard work, so why not reward them for their potty success? Take a look at how cute this product is! While I don't suffer from Celiac's Disease or gluten intolerance, I have been eating more and more gluten-free foods lately. You see, I want to lose about 15lbs before my birthday in June, so I have started making certain lifestyle changes in hopes of successfully reaching this goal. Some of the changes I am making are drinking more water, eating more vegetables, eating organic whenever possible, and limiting my gluten and carb intake. I know what you're thinking. Gluten-Free? Doesn't that taste like cardboard? That's what I thought, too, until I tried the gluten free foods from Udi's! Don't believe me? Try this vegetable pizza recipe featuring Udi's pizza crust! The sauce is to die for, the veggies and cheeses delectable, and it's a nice change from traditional pizzas! You would never even suspect what's missing! Vegetable Pizza: 5. Her sweet daughter, Anaya, passed away some months ago from a rare disorder called Krabbe Leukodystrophy. Baby Anaya was diagnosed in May 2010 with Infantile Krabbe Leukodystrophy. She died on November 13, 2011 at the age of 26.5 Months, in her favorite place: Her mother's arms. She first started showing symptoms in February of 2010 at the age of 4 months. This rare disease causes demylination in the brain due to lack of a specific enzyme. It can strike families with no medical history of any neurological problems. Two healthy parents who both carry a recessive gene for this enzyme deficiency can produce a perfectly healthy looking newborn, who, at the age of three or four months, will begin showing symptoms of Krabbe Leukodystrophy. The outlook for kids with Krabbe is bleak. In most cases a baby diagnosed with infantile Krabbe will develop normally for a few months and then lose their motor skills, the ability to hold their heads up, the ability to smile, laugh or speak, followed by loss of sight and hearing. Seizures may or may not occur and average life expectancy is less than 2 years. I have followed the story of little Anaya since before she passed away. Her story is moving, inspirational, and can be seen here. Anaya lives on. She did a great job while she was here on Earth, and so many babies are being helped now because of her. In her life, albeit too brief, Anaya has accomplished so much. She has affected people worldwide, including myself, and her mother Camara is doing amazing things out of love for Anaya. Since Anaya crossed the Rainbow Bridge, Camara has done what many parents wouldn't have the strength to do: She has channeled her grief in a beautiful way, and in honor of Anaya, is now dedicated to helping other families who have suffered from loss or are coping with a child with serious medical issues. Camara has been to Italy, to Mexico, and through her visits, compassion, and even just her words, she is touching the lives of people every single day. While I am blessed to have 3 healthy children, I do know the pain of losing a child. I have had 4 miscarriages, each one absolutely devastating. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a living child, but my miscarriages were still losses, and they changed me as a person. I lost babies, too. While they never made it to my arms, they will always be a piece of my heart and soul. Camara recently made a video to help comfort parents who have gone through the unthinkable. Her words are very comforting, and with her permission, I am sharing. To learn more about Anaya and Camara's efforts to help other children and families around the world, please visit the following sites. Feel free to share! Anaya's story is meant to be shared. http://www.healinganaya.blogspot.com/ http://www.healinganaya.com/ https://www.facebook.com/TheAnayaInitiative http://www.camaraloves.blogspot.com/ Now that the weather is finally warming up, I am determined to get my preteen off of the couch. He spends entirely too much time sitting around, and now that spring is here, he has no excuse not to be active. Physical activity in children and teens is so important. It helps build strength, endurance, and confidence. Plus, it's fun! When I was a kid, one of the things I loved doing was bike riding. I lived on a sloped, dead end road and my brother and I would go to the top of the hill and race each other to the bottom. This was always loads of fun, except for the one time that I braked too hard and flew over the handlebars and landed face-first on the rough asphalt. Ouch! One thing we used to do with our bikes was stick playing cards in the spokes to make a loud noise as we rode around the neighborhood. This wasn't overly effective and to be honest, the cards really didn't stay in place for too long. They always ended up wither falling off entriely, or they got too dented and beat-up to produce the desired effect. Thinking about my childhood adventures on my bike made me feel a little bit nostalgic. I want my kids to have similar memories that they can look back on, too! When I heard about Kool Rider, I knew I had to get this for my son. What is Kool Rider? It's similar to the old playing card in the spokes bike trick, but it's durable and lasts for ages! That's right! Today's kids can make their bikes sound like a motorcycle using this product. It adds new excitement to an ordinary bike ride, and is sure to get those kids up off of the couch! Kool Rider is pretty simple in design. It comes with a durable plastic unit that can be clipped onto the bike and held in place by a sticky, velcro loop. There are also fun stickers included so you can customize the look of your Kool Rider! |
