They say that the kitchen is the heart of any home, and I couldn't agree more. There are plenty of memories to be made in this room. Think about it...Kids helping Mommy make cookies or cupcakes, couples enjoying a quiet evening cooking a romantic meal together, or even just memories of fantastic foods and quality time with family and friends. Growing up, I didn't really have parents blessed with the ability to cook. (With the exception of my Step-Dad, who is an amazing chef!) So most food-related memories from early childhood were meals from Taco Bell or Dominos Pizza. Until we went to Grandma's house, that is! This was a treat, because she always had something yummy for my brother and I. We loved her homemade lasagna, delicious chicken burgers, and even her ooey-gooey grilled cheese. It was my Grandma, who just happens to be my very best friend, that gave me a love for cooking and for family as well. Newly Crunchy Mama Of 3 is not responsible for sponsor prize shipment. With Valentine's Day coming up soon, I have been looking for romantic recipes to serve my husband. He loves desserts, and for him, the sweeter the better. I, on the other hand, prefer desserts that are a bit less sweet, like cheesecake or Tiramisu. Have you ever tried making traditional Tiramisu? It can be pretty tricky, and not something to attempt if you're a "kitchen virgin". Luckily, while browsing the internet, I found some great recipes for Tiramisu cakes! These are full of that wonderful flavor but take a lot less work. I have made a few of the recipes, played with ingredients, and tweaked it until I found what I believe is perfection. My husband and kids agree! The best part? This uses a simple boxed white cake mix as a base. Can't get much easier than that! The secret behind this deceptively simple recipe is to use good quality ingredients. For the coffee, we like Tim Horton's. This can be ordered online if you're not in certain places in the US or in Canada, where Timmy's is abundant. (Trust me...This coffee is AMAZING, and I am not even a big coffee drinker!) We also like Ghiradelli chocolate for the chocolate curls. Any chocolate will do, of course, but we have found that this brand is quite easy to work with and has a wonderful, complex flavor. The end result? A decadent Tiramisu cake that will make people think you slaved away all day long! Want the recipe? Keep reading! I love Chili's. Sadly, since we've moved to Ohio, there isn't a location in our immediate vicinity. (The nearest Chili's is about 25 minutes away.) One of my favorite dishes from this chain is their Cajun Chicken Pasta. It's a spicier version of Chicken Alfredo, and has tons of bright flavors, paired with the cheesy, creaminess of the sauce. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Yum! Luckily, if you're craving this dish, it's fairly easy to make at home. This is in our monthly rotation, and it always gets rave reviews from my family. Even the pickiest of eaters, my teen son, who doesn't like anything, it seems! Fresh ingredients are best used when preparing this recipe, although frozen vegetables and prepared alfredo sauce will work in a pinch if you're short on time. You can also use any kind of noodles. Fettucini, bow-tie pasta, and linguine are our top picks since they hold the sauce well. Want the recipe? Keep reading! Okay, so anyone who knows me in real life knows I adore Dove. I have been using their body washes, soaps, hair care products, lotions and their deodorant for years. My husband and teen son even use their men's line of personal care products. If you go into my ginormous stash of bath and beauty products, (and yes, I do mean ginormous) Dove is a brand that you'll see over and over again. Not only does Dove have amazing, affordable products, they also do a great deal to help women and girls recognize their own unique beauty. (I am sure you've seen all of the ads for Dove's Campaign for Real Beauty, right? LOVE these!) You may recall last year I reviewed the amazing QuickZip crib sheet sets from the folks at Clouds & Stars. These sheets have made my life as a mom SO much easier, and save me tons of time when it comes to changing and washing my toddlers' bedding.
QuickZip is an awesome, Mom-made invention that allows bedding to be changed simply by zipping off the soiled "top sheet" and zipping another onto a base sheet. No more fumbling with heavy, awkward mattresses. With these sheets, it really is a snap! Well the folks at Clouds & Stars are having a MAJOR close-out sale now through Monday, Janaury 21, 2013. Special closeout items are being sold at an even deeper discount! Here are some great price examples that show just how rockin' these savings are: You may have noticed, I have been posting a lot more recipes lately. Some are great Valentine's Day ideas, and some would be wonderful snacks for the Super Bowl parties people are bound to be having in a couple short weeks. In addition, I post tons of every day recipes that my family loves. (Want to check out my recipes? They can be seen HERE.) While I adore cooking and love sharing my creations with you all, there is a reason there have been far more recipes lately than usual. I have been making far more baked goods, appetizers, stews, and even main dishes than ever before, usually trying at least 5-10 new recipes every week. It's been a bit of a culinary adventure! You see, I have been trying out a very high-end, specialty food processor that literally does the work of several machines, all by itself! I guess you could call the Magimix by Robot Coupe the "Lamborghini of food processors". These are used in commercial kitchens worldwide, and are truly the best of the best. I tend to get very excited about kitchen appliances and anything food-related, so this "excuse" to cook all the time has definitely been enjoyable! (My family isn't complaining at all, either!)
