I've seen a ton of buzz online regarding water lately. There's talk about the water crisis in Flint, Michigan and other places, there's talk about certain water additives, and of course, there's talk about Alkaline Water.
I'll be the first to admit, the whole concept of Alkaline Water is relatively new to me. When the folks at the Alkaline Water Company reached out to me to see if I'd like to check out their Alkaline88 pH Water, I was definitely curious.
So what is Alkaline88 pH Water?
This is water that is literally scientifically engineered to raise the pH of the water. Through a totally chemical-free, scientific process, Alkaline88 has the ideal pH of 8.8 This is achieved by using electronic cells that are coated in a variety of rare earth minerals. The water is enhanced by 84 essential Himalayan trace minerals, including iron, copper, calcium, and magnesium, to name a few. This water is purified using reverse osmosis as well.
Alkaline88 offers a simple way to maintain a proper pH balance as well as staying well-hydrated. Alkaline88 comes in 1 Gallon, 3 Liter, and 1 Liter bottles, so it's easy to keep it on hand both at home and while on the go. A huge plus is that this product can be bought in bulk. I have found that whenever I purchase water, it's usually in larger amounts. After all, we're supposed to drink a TON of water every day!
Now I am not a physician, so I will make absolutely no medical claims about this or any other product.
That being said, here are the reported benefits of choosing water with a high alkaline content:
Dr. Jamie Koufman, internationally renowned expert on reflux, and researcher Dr. Nikki Johnston studied how alkaline water destroyed pepsin, a stomach enzyme that when activated by acid causes painful reflux symptoms that can lead to cancer. According to the findings, natural artesian alkaline water instantaneously inactivated human pepsin in laboratory studies. Ordinary tap and bottled waters had no such effect. (Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, July, 2012)
You can learn more about the science here.
I cannot really speak of any health benefits related to this product, as I am relatively healthy and don't suffer from any real health conditions. I wouldn't be honest if I said that my health has improved in any noticeable way.
I can say that this water tastes amazing, though! It's very crisp, fresh, and it doesn't have any funky, metallic aftertastes. I have found that when chilled, I WANT to reach for a bottle of this water because it's so refreshing. That says a lot, since usually, it's a battle for me to drink the right amount of water each day!
I'm curious to see if I do end up feeling different in any way after long-term consumption of this product. I'm sure that a few months of drinking it would offer more of any possible effect than a couple of weeks. I'll keep you all posted!
If you've been curious about Alkaline Water and have wanted to give it a shot, I would definitely recommend checking out what the folks at the Alkaline Water Company has to offer. Alkaline88 pH Water is easily found at stores like Whole Foods Market, Albertsons, 7-11, and Sprouts!
The prices are $4.99 for the one gallon, $3.99 for the 3-liter, $2.25 for the 1 liter, $1.49 for the 700ML and .99 cents for the ½ liter.
