![]() As a new home-owner, I am always looking for affordable ways to renovate our 100 year old home. You see, we bought our house in August, and it was sold as an estate. A very, very old woman lived here, and well...You can tell. We have some hideous wall paper to contend with, some outdated flooring that looks like it came from the middle ages, and our kitchen and bath cabinets have GOT to go. So it's safe to say, we have some major updating to do! Since we paid for our home in full, we are trying to save as much money as possible and tackle one project at a time. I have already updated my kitchen appliances, thanks to the wonderful folks at Maytag, and my kitchen counter tops are about to be revamped, too. Since we've got those very important things squared away, the next thing on our to do list is replace our not-so-pretty flooring. My husband is pretty handy, so we're planning to do as much as possible ourselves. He's comfortable doing anything but electrical work. He had a run-in with 110V years ago, and he isn't eager to repeat that experience. Flooring, though, is something Dan can definitely handle. So now I am on the hunt for high quality, low price flooring so we can get started! I did say our flooring in the kitchen and bathroom is ugly, right? Well, unfortunately, I wasn't kidding. Here is our hideous, brown vinyl flooring in the kitchen. The only thing I like about it is that it doesn't show spills very well. Other than that, I absolutely despise it. With a passion. I would much rather have something more modern. Rather than our sad, ancient vinyl, we'd like to explore Porcelain, ceramic, stone, tile, wood and laminate options for a much more updated look and feel. I really like the look of this beautiful ceramic tile flooring! It's so unique, and it would work very well in my kitchen. If you thought my kitchen flooring was atrocious, wait till you see our upstairs bathroom. The entire thing needs to be remodeled, from tile to cabinets to flooring. Oh, the wallpaper has got to go, too. It's very Victorian and not modern at all. But the flooring in this room would have to be what I hate the most in my whole entire house. It's a nasty, baby poop green color and it's very, very old. Take a look. I know this photo doesn't show just the floor, but I thought it was too ugly to hit you with the image on its own! What I would LOVE to get for this bathroom is a gorgeous, natural-looking stone vinyl flooring. Or perhaps granite tiles, if our budget allows! Recently, I stumbled upon Floor & Decor. This is a home improvement super-store that offers the best selection in tiles, as well as many other home improvement supplies. They even have cabinets, sinks, and other must-haves. I was literally blown away by the sheer amount of styles to pick from, as well as the very reasonable prices. Take a look at a shot of one of their in-store photos. It's massive, and stocked full of all the materials you'd ever need for home improvements! So as we make our plans to renovate our home, I know where I will be heading to get a lot of our supplies! Floor & Decor offers families an affordable way to make their homes feel like a home. They have so much that I absolutely love that the real challenge will be picking out our products. Will it be ceramic, hardwood, stone...? Hmm....The possibilities are endless!
