I don't know if it's because the weather is getting cold, or because there are about a gazillion germs floating about and lots of close contact with friends and family, but we always seem to get colds right around Christmas time. It stinks, too, since Sophie's birthday is on New Year's Eve and Xander's is just a couple of weeks later. This time of year it's so important to have a healthy immune system. The stress of the season alone can be enough to drain a person, and unfortunately, this can sometimes lead to illness. This year, we're trying to keep the sickies at bay in every way possible. We're washing our hands often, sanitizing surfaces, and taking supplements for immune support and digestion wellness. Here are some more ways to help keep your Holiday season merry and bright. And I don't mean bright, red, sniffly, snotty noses. If you're going to be traveling, these tips will come in especially handy. 7 Ways to Promote Healthy Holiday Travel : With holiday travel, with all its stresses, can take a toll on our health. As we gear up for the season, now is a great time to start thinking about ways to stay healthy and happy on the holiday road. Brooke Alpert, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., of B Nutritious and author of The Sugar Detox, (Da Capo, 2013) is a paid spokesperson for Puritan’s Pride. She has some easy-to-follow suggestions for healthy holiday travel: 1.Keep your body fueled – Hunger can make already stressful situations worse. With possible delays ahead, pack a couple healthy snacks in your carry-on luggage. Airport or convenience store food usually has low nutritional value and is costly. 2. Support Your Energy Metabolism and Immunity*- Holiday travel means increased activities, and higher. Add a daily probiotic to help keep your immune system and your gut regular and in the holiday spirit!* Puritan’s Pride Probiotic 10 is one suggestion. 3. Stretch Your Legs During the Journey - This is particularly important during long flights, when blood clots can occur in your legs. It’s a good idea to get up and walk through the cabin about once an hour, and move your legs, feet and ankles regularly while in your seat. 4.Help your Digestive Health* - During the holidays, rich foods, alcohol drinks and extra desserts are indulgences that can take a toll on bodies, leaving us feeling sluggish. Consider adding Puritan’s Pride Herbal Laxative , which contains ingredients that have been traditionally used to gently support regularity.* 5.Help for Motion Sickness – For some, travel can cause occasional nausea and motion sickness. While common in cooking, Ginger Root can be a way to help with the unpleasantness of occasional motion sickness.* Taking Puritan's Pride Ginger Root can also help to ease a sour stomach.* 6.Get enough sleep- Most adults should get 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Staying well-rested is a great counter to stress. 7.Relax with Tea - Peppermint tea has numerous benefits and is perfect to sip when you are unwinding from the stresses of holiday travel. Enjoy a cup of naturally caffeine free Organic Peppermint Tea either hot or cold. Armed with these tips, your Holiday season is sure to be a holly jolly one! Safe travels, and remember to drink your peppermint tea. It really is amazingly delicious, if I do say so myself! *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
