***Disclosure: I received this product for free from Smiley360 in exchange for my honest review. You can join Smiley360 here!*** Here in NE Ohio, cold and flu season is definitely upon us. We've all suffered through a pretty brutal cold a month or so ago, and it seems that even more bugs are going around now! My husband and I are tough...We can (barely) function while we're sick. But having sick kids that are full of ooey-gooey snot? Not fun. Not fun at all. Especially for my 2 and 3 year olds! When they're too congested, they can't sleep very well, and end up keeping me awake all night long. Here are 5 great tips we personally use to make cold and flu season just a little more bearable. 1. Get plenty of fluids We stock up on orange juice and Gatorade to keep hydrated during an illness. The electrolytes in Gatorade keep your body hydrated and balanced and the Vitamin C in orange juice is a proven immune booster. 2. Make it a Family Movie Day When the doctor orders rest and relaxation, it's a great time to snuggle up together on the couch and watch some great movies. This not only ensures good rest, but takes your mind off of feeling absolutely miserable. Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine! 3. Use leftovers to make simple meals When you're sick, it's no fun slaving away in the kitchen. When you feel the sickies coming on, plan meals accordingly. Why not roast a chicken and have sandwiches one day, and stir-fry the next? Or, you can use the leftovers to make some comforting chicken noodle soup. This will save so much time, and allow you to spend more time healing. 4. Use a humidifier and essential oils to make breathing easier This is something I actually do all winter long, since the air in my house tends to be dry during the colder months. I use a cool mist humidifier, and I also use essential oils like clove and Eucalyptus, which are known to help clear the sinuses. Or even lavender to help promote a good night's sleep! 5. Use effective natural remedies or OTC medications like Children's Mucinex When all else fails, be sure to use effective natural or OTC remedies to lessen your suffering. Some of my favorites include Oil of Oregano, which is a natural antibiotic, and the OTC Mucinex line of products. Mucinex is the ONLY thing that seems to work overtime to eliminate nasty congestion. Plus, the Very Berry flavor is something that my little ones find very appealing, so there's no fighting when it's "Medicine Time".
