***Disclosure: I received complimentary samples to facilitate my review. No other compensation was provided. All opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** One of the things I love best about the month of August is that fall styles are hitting the shelves everywhere. Sure, summery clothing and shoes are cute, but there is just something about fall fashion that always gets me excited. Cute cardigans, pants, tights, and dresses...Ooh, I love it! And of course, we can't forget about fall footwear! I love wearing boots, and so do my little ones. Sophie and Xander call basically any type of boots "Rock Star Boots." I don't know where this came from, but it sure is cute! So of course, when their brand new boots from the Umi Children's Shoes 2013 Fall Collection arrived, both kids were beyond thrilled! Haven't heard of Umi? Well let me tell you all about this awesome company. They're truly one of my favorites when it comes to children's shoes! About Umi Children's Shoes : Umi hand crafts children's shoes that walk through the meltdowns and major milestones with style. Umi selects only the best patterns plus the highest quality leathers and materials to keep them a step above everyone else. Umi obsesses about fit to ensure that every shoe with the Umi name gives that little love some room to grow. Umi is also dedicated to helping the environment. At Umi, they understand the importance of picking up after yourself—after all, this is the only world we've got. Every shoe they make uses child-safe materials, like non-toxic drum-dyed leathers and other environmentally friendly materials, and goes through a series of strict quality and safety tests. Always protected in recycled packaging, Umi's a brand that believes going green isn't just a trend, it's our responsibility. When you're a kid, every moment counts. So Umi makes their shoes for much more than walking. All along the way, from design to manufacturing, they focus on all the little details—like patterns and footbeds—that'll make sure your Umis deliver the quality, comfort and style they've always promised. The folks at Umi are just real people who love making kids' shoes that'll last through all the wear and tear of growing up. Our Review of Umi's Fall Fashions : The folks at Umi Children's Shoes generously sent us a couple of pairs of boots to check out for ourselves. Sophie chose these stunning Abbie boots in red. (I wish they came in women's sizes! I absolutely love them!) The Abbie features durable outsoles and leather uppers, and have a size-zipper closure. They are also embellished with several brass-colored studs for just a hint of attitude. (And anyone who knows my Sophie knows she has plenty of attitude!) Sophie absolutely adores these boots, and has been wearing them constantly. She pairs them with dresses, with shorts, with leggings and jeans...She even has adopted a very odd habit of running around wearing nothing but her big girl panties and her Abbies, waving around a Guitar Hero guitar and shouting "I'm a Rock Star Panty Girl!" She recently became fully potty-trained, and since these are her "Rock Star Boots", I guess in her mind it makes sense. We just laugh! Xander chose these masculine Henley boots in chocolate. These, much like the Abbie, have durable outsoles and leather uppers. They have a hook and loop closure, which is super convenient, especially when we're on the go. These boots are ankle height, and I have to admit, I had a hard time getting them on Xander at first. I knew I had the right size, so I couldn't figure out what the problem was. His foot just wouldn't go in! Well just when I was about to either cry or lube his tootsies up with Crisco, I realized the problem: He was curling his toes under as I tried to slip the boot on his foot. So they're not the easiest shoes to put on my son, but it's HIS doing, and not because of the boot itself. Xander also loves his boots from Umi Children's Shoes. Hopefully he will learn to relax his foot when I put them on so he can wear them all the time. These will be great this fall, though, especially when it comes time for Thanksgiving and other gatherings. These are really cute, and while they're casual, they could easily be dressed up by pairing them with khakis and a button down dress shirt! Overall, we love our Umi shoes! These shoes are very well made, and definitely make a fashion statement. I love the colors and whimsical designs offered by Umi, and I plan to purchase more shoes from their fall line to add to our collection. Sophie has her heart set on some cute ballet flats! I am delighted by the durability of these shoes, and am confident that they won't fall apart after a few weeks of wear like cheap, Walmart shoes tend to do. The folks at Umi really pay attention to detail, and they make shoes with active, rambunctious children in mind. Like mine. Connect With Umi Children's Shoes : You can check out the awesomeness that is Umi Children's Shoes on their website. While you're there, be sure to check out their Deal of the Month and sign up for their Birthday Club to receive a special gift around the time your child's birthday approaches! You can also follow them on Facebook, on twitter, and on Pinterest to stay on top of their latest products and promotions. (And they have some GREAT ones!) Enter to WIN : I am thrilled to announce that one lucky reader will receive a $60 Umi Gift Certificate so they can try some of these awesome shoes for themselves! How cool is that?!
