With 2 toddlers, bedtime is not always the easiest time of day. Most of the time, my kids don't want to settle down, and of course tantrums happen. (I have double trouble with a 2 year old AND a 3 year old.) To make matters worse, they always want to stay up and get their "Daddy time" since my husband works odd hours and gets home around 7:30 every evening. So while they might be physically tired, an extra burst of energy always kicks in when Daddy gets home.

We've been trying a lot of things to make bedtime go more smoothly. Warm bubble baths, Lavender lotion, and of course some good old fashioned snuggle time. Sometimes it works out well, and sometimes we need a little extra help getting the kids in the mood for slumber.

Recently, I discovered a really neat bedtime book that is designed specifically for kids between the ages of about 1.5 to 4. "Tuck Me In!" by Dean Hacohen and Sherry Scharschmidt is a fun way to spend quality time with kids while encouraging them to go to sleep. This beautifully illustrated book features "blankets" that can be moved to tuck various baby animals into bed, snug and sound, all by turning the pages!

My babies love this book because the characters are friendly and bright, and they enjoy being able to tuck the animals in, all by themselves. I love interactive books like this because they really keep young children engaged and interested.

Xander likes sitting on Daddy's lap, turning the pages as Daddy reads to him. By the end of the book, he actually grabs for a blanket and says "Tuck Xander In, Daddy!" My little Tazmanian Devil, asking to be tucked in?! This book is genius!

Sophie loves the book, too. The story is very simply written, so beginning readers can actually read it, too. Sophie is 3, but she has always loved books and can read quite a few words. She had no problem at all reading a good majority of this book. We had to help with a few words, but not too many at all. She was so proud that she could recognize the words, all by herself! Of course she liked tucking the animals into bed, too!

Overall, we love "Tuck Me In!" This book is definitely fun, and it helps my stubborn kids realize that bedtime is not a bad thing. This adorable book helps get them in the mood to sleep. Especially when they're tired, cranky, and fighting it. To them, it's a fun nighttime ritual. To a weary, exhausted Mommy and Daddy, it's a secret weapon! Okay...So weapon sounds a bit extreme, but it's definitely a parents' best friend!
