I have to admit, I despise eggs. I mean truly think they're disgusting. But I happen to be a very picky eater, and there are a ton of common foods that are on my "will-not-touch-even-if-threatened-with-death" list. (I also don't eat sweets, seafood of any kind, turkey, pumpkin, and the list goes on and on....) Fortunately for my family, I do not force my odd eating habits on them. As a matter of fact, my husband and all three of my children love eggs. But of course, they have no idea how to cook them, so I get the often unpleasant task, and the yucky frying pans to clean up afterwards since the hubby and teen do not do dishes. So when the awesome folks at Kalorik reached out to me about their brand new product, the Rollie Eggmaster, I was a bit intrigued. This odd-looking, small appliance promises to cook eggs and other treats perfectly every time. Another thing the Rollie promises is quick, easy and painless clean-up. Easy clean-up after cooking eggs for my family? Where do I sign up?! About the Rollie Eggmaster : The Rollie is a brand new concept to make eggs, but you can also make all kinds of recipes and meals: pizza, sandwiches, French toast, hotdogs, burger dogs, crescent roll desserts… it’s amazing and the list goes on! The Rollie is essentially a vertical grill that takes up very little counter space. It has lighted indicators to show you when the unit is ready to cook foods, and you simply pour your eggs or other foods into the Rollie, wait a few minutes, and the food will "pop up" when it's done, much like toast comes out of a toaster. Yes, I know. This concept sounds odd. It's definitely unlike anything I've seen before! So to get a better idea of this brand new concept, please take a moment to watch this brief video that shows the Rollie in action! My Review of the Rollie : The folks at Kalorik wanted me to try the Rollie out for myself, and when it arrived, I admit I was more than a little bit skeptical. First of all, this appliance is very strange looking. And after reading the instruction manual, I didn't believe for one second that the Rollie would work as promised. It just seemed too good to be true. Pour foods in and wait for them to pop up, perfectly cooked? Hmm...We will just have to see about that! The Rollie comes with several accessories, including a "packer" to help push food down into the unit, wooden skewers, and a cleaning brush. There are several recipes found in the manual, and no, they're not just breakfast foods! There are also several snack recipes that are sure to please hungry children and adults alike. (Burger Rollie, anyone?) Once you remove the Rollie from the packaging and familiarize yourself with the instructions, it's a good idea to clean the unit. This will help remove the protective coating that is applied to the unit. This coating is completely harmless, and might produce a bit of smoke during the first use. Before using the Rollie, it's also super-important to spray it with PAM, or a similar non-stick cooking spray. This allows the Rollie to be cleaned in mere seconds. And as a busy mom, easy clean-up is something I always appreciate! I waited for the indicator light to turn green, and then I took 2 large eggs, some crumbled bacon, and some cheddar cheese and poured them into the Rollie. I used the pusher tool to make sure all of my ingredients were far enough down in the unit. The food began cooking immediately, and a small amount of steam came out of the top during the cooking process. After about 7 minutes or so, our cheesy bacon and egg concoction began to rise out of the unit. I did have to insert a skewer into the food to help pull it up out of the Rollie. It came out quite easily, and was perfectly cooked. We also tried a few more recipes using the Rollie. One of the kids' favorites was a French Toast Rollie! This was SO easy to make! All I had to do was tear up a few slices of bread and mix it with an egg, some milk, cinnamon, vanilla extract and sugar. I poured all of the combined ingredients into the Rollie, inserted a skewer, and waited. This smelled wonderful while cooking, and the kids went nuts over it! Again, after just a few minutes, our food began to rise. I probably should have allowed it took cook for a couple more minutes since we like a crisper exterior on our French Toast, but it was still very, very good. Once it was removed from the Rollie, I sliced and plated it and doused it in some all natural Maple syrup. The kids absolutely loved it, and it was so very easy to make! MUCH easier than keeping watch over a frying pan and flipping French toast every couple of minutes. With the Rollie, you don't have to do much of anything but wait! Pretty cool, right? Overall, I am thoroughly impressed with the Rollie Eggmaster. It makes cooking eggs, one of my least favorite things to prepare, so much simpler. And as promised, clean-up is so easy and quick. Much easier than scraping nasty egg bits off of a frying pan! (And gagging in the process!) We also love the fact that there are endless recipe possibilities using the Rollie. Even things without eggs! Everything we've tried so far has been a big hit, and I have saved so much time by using this device. But the best part has to be the fact that the Rollie is so easy to use that even those who cannot cook to save their lives can operate it and get consistent results. So when hunger strikes, my non-cooking husband and teen can make their own snacks, and this mama can get a much needed, uninterrupted bubble bath. It just doesn't get much better than that! How to Connect : You can purchase the Rollie Eggmaster HERE. You can also check out the Rollie on Facebook and on twitter! For even more great kitchen helpers, be sure to check out Kalorik on Facebook and on twitter, too! They have a lot of amazing products I am dying to try!
