Here are my top 5 laughs for this week! My oldest son is a character. No, really, he is. He's about to turn 12 next week, and I was thinking back on funny things he has said and done, and would love to share a few memories with you. Some of them may be a little bit inappropriate....But since when do kids always say and do the most appropriate things?! 1. My son was about 4, and was in the tub taking a bath. I was in the room, straightening things up. Kyle said to me, "Mommy?" I replied, "Yes?" He then grabbed his family jewels and said "What are these things?" I was dumbfounded, but replied as appropriately as I could. "Kyle, those are your testicles." He got a very thoughtful look on his face and then said "Hey Mommy....I have lovely testicles..." Oh. My. Goodness. What do you even SAY to that?! 2. One year when my son was about 4, we were Trick-Or-Treating. He was the most adorable little dinosaur. Well, as we made our way from house to house, he was the epitome of good behavior. Until we reached a home where a little girl dressed as a witch was passing out candy...Then it all fell apart. You see, Grandma has let him watch the movie "Kindergarten Cop". As the little girl handed him his candy, he blurted out: "Boys have a penis and girls have a vagina." We were MORTIFIED, but the other parents seemed to find it amusing. 3. Potty Training. Gotta love it. Kyle was incredibly resistant, despite early efforts to teach him. He KNEW what to do, and would make his teddy bear do so on the potty, but HE wanted no part of it. So I bought the video, "Once Upon A Potty: For Him." This seemed to help. In the video, the little boy Joshua is being potty-trained. They go through an anatomy lesson that states: Joshua is a little boy. He has eyes to see, a mouth to eat and talk, etc....One day, when Kyle was 3, we were at the grocery store. There were 2 little old ladies who HAD to be in their 70's at least in the aisle with us. One lady started talking to me about a product or recipe, and Kyle was charming the other lady. Everything seemed perfectly fine...And then I heard my son say "And a little hole for making poo-poo." Horrified, I look over, and my toddler had his pants around his ankles, Pull-Ups down, and was spreading his cheeks for this very old woman...Thankfully, she thought it was funny. In fact, her grandkids had the same video, so she knew WHY he was saying this....Oh, the joys of parenthood! 4. This is a little more recent. Kyle is about 10 years older than our daughter, Sophie. I buy the toddlers specific organic juices that are made for babies. One day, Kyle asked if he could have some. I told him no, but that he could have the other juice, since it wasn't only made for babies. He then asked " Oh, so this juice is okay for REAL humans, too?" 5. I will finish up with a photo. This says it all! Yes, my son is a character!

Okay, I have a serious confession to make...One that has my husband rolling his eyes at me whenever we go shopping, both in stores and online. My name is Brandy, and I am cheap. There. I said it. Now while I may be ridiculously frugal and will stop at nothing to find the absolute best deals for my family, I never skimp on quality. I often use auction sites to score the very best deals on things my family needs and wants. I have come away with some fantastic, high-dollar items for a fraction of the price. What can I say? Saving money gives me a rush!
While there are tons of great sites to find physical merchandise on the cheap, what happens when you can't find that perfect gift? Maybe you'd like to give a gift card, but don't want to get stuck paying full price! This, my friends, is where You Never Lose comes into play! At YouNeverLose.com, you can bid on gift cards to some of the top retailers, such as Whole Foods, Amazon, Walmart, and Starbucks. And you get score them at serious discounts. I'm talking 95% savings off of regular retail prices! How does it work? Well, it's actually pretty simple. First, you need to register with the site. This process is quick, easy, and free of charge. Once you're a member, you simply purchase a gift card. (And who can't find a use for a gift card?!) After you purchase your gift card, it is shipped to you, free of charge. You also receive reward points with your purchase that can be used to bid during their gift card penny auctions! For every dollar spent, you receive one reward point. So let's say you buy a $25 gift card to Bath and Body Works. You then have your gift card AND 25 reward points to use in the penny auctions! When you bid using these reward points, you really aren't losing anything, since you have already gotten your money's worth in the form of the gift card you purchased. I have to be honest, I am one of those "strict mamas" that doesn't allow her kids to have free reign over the television. As a matter of fact, my preteen still isn't allowed to watch the vast majority of programming unless I physically watch and approve it myself. This makes me extremely unpopular with my soon-to-be 12 year old, by the way. He wants to watch a lot of shows that are geared towards teens, but after seeing the rudeness, brattiness, and lack of respect portrayed in these wildly popular shows, it's a no-go in my home. There are so many negative influences in children's entertainment today, and I simply don't want to expose my kids to that before it's absolutely necessary. Kids are exposed to WAY too much, WAY too soon. I have worked in the local school system, and I have some stories I can tell...But that's a whole different post in itself! After seeing how easily kids are influenced by everything around them, as a parent, I take my responsibilities seriously and try and keep them from growing up too quickly. After all, kids should be allowed to be kids! The same goes for my toddlers. While I don't completely ban the television, I am very careful about what I put on for them. Generally, it's mostly educational shows or shows that contain positive values and messages. Shows like Chuggington! These lovable locomotives are friendly, fun, and most of all, have big hearts. With themes like friendship, trust, patience, and teamwork, I am happy to let my toddlers ride the rails with their favorite choo-choo trains! My kids LOVE Chuggington! The fun, playful characters really capture their attention, and my daughter even tries to mimic the British accents of her favorite locomotives. Coming from a 2 year old, it's actually rather comical! All of the stories in the Chuggington series are fast-paced, loads of fun, and they all feature valuable life lessons that are age appropriate for the intended audience. Recently I received the newest installment from the Chuggington series, "Brewster's Little Helper". This DVD will have preschoolers honking their horns alongside their favorite trainees, Wilson, Brewster and Koko, through six energetic episodes. In the title episode, Zephie is determined to prove that she can pull her weight. After overhearing Brewster’s tasks for the day, she tries to take care of them all, but winds up chugging headlong into trouble. When Zephie is unable to complete the chores correctly, she realizes she still has some growing up to do. And, with a little help from Brewster, everything gets back on track.
Each of the additional episodes – Koko Takes Charge, Brewster Knows Best, Zephie’s Zoomaround, Nurse Wilson and Wilson And The Paint Wagon – are filled with loads of fun and coupled with positive lessons for preschoolers such as patience, teamwork, responsibility, friendship, creative thinking and more. As always, I loved the stories included in this Chuggington DVD. More importantly, so did my kids! They were absolutely thrilled to watch their favorite characters working together, and I could sigh a sigh of relief, knowing that there were no negative messages being sent to my toddlers. Overall, I definitely recommend this series to parents of little ones. The Chuggington crew is lovable, friendly, and will quickly become family favorites! BUY IT: You can purchase Brewster's Little Helper wherever DVD's are typically sold. While you're there, check out some of the other fun titles in this series! No other compensation was provided, and all opinions are 100% honest and have not been influenced in any way.*** It seems to me that everyone around me is getting pregnant lately. Except for me, of course. I had my tubes tied after having Xander, and that's a decision I have actually come to regret. (That's a whole different post in itself!) Since so many friends are currently expecting, I have been keeping my eyes open for cute, unique baby gifts. Sure, I could go out and purchase a teddy bear or standard blankie for the many upcoming baby showers I am attending, but I prefer giving gifts that stand out. That's why I was thrilled when I got the opportunity to review the Babyopoly Swaddle Blanket from babychix. First of all, I love the idea of incorporating humor into a gift for new parents. The Babyopoly Swaddle Blanket has the look of a Monopoly board, but is full of fun, often exhausting, trials and tribulations of babyhood. Some of the squares include "Dad changes poopie diaper. Get out of crib free", "Play Patty Cake" and "Toy Chest". The Babyopoly Swaddle Blanket comes beautifully packaged in a tulle gift bag and is adorned with a beautiful, satiny ribbon, making it perfect for gift-giving. The fabric used in this blanket is thick and soft, and is sure to be very cozy for any little bundle of joy. The cute, baby-related images on the blanket are vibrantly colored, and since babychix uses sublimation printing, the colors stay vibrant and resist fading. Let's face it, with a new baby in the house, messes happen! Take a look at how unique and adorable this swaddle blanket is! While my husband is a really good sport and will happily watch "The Little Mermaid" and "Beauty and the Beast" with our daughter, I know what he really craves: Action. So I know he is stoked about the upcoming release of MARVEL'S The Avengers on May 4, 2012! Yes, my hubby is a dork and eats, sleeps, and breathes comics and superhero movies. I expect this will be no different! Marvel Studios presents “Marvel’s The Avengers”—the Super Hero team up of a lifetime, featuring iconic Marvel Super Heroes Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow. When an unexpected enemy emerges that threatens global safety and security, Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. Spanning the globe, a daring recruitment effort begins. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Tom Hiddleston, with Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson, and written and directed by Joss Whedon, “Marvel’s The Avengers” is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series “The Avengers,” first published in 1963 and a comics institution ever since. Prepare yourself for an exciting event movie, packed with action and spectacular special effects, when “Marvel’s The Avengers” assemble in summer 2012. In “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Super Heroes team up to pull the world back from the brink of disaster when an unexpected enemy threatens global security. Here are couple of exclusive new images from the film! So definitely mark your calendars for May 4th, since this is when The Avengers will take over the big screen nationwide! I am fairly certain I will be seeing this movie, probably dozens of times. After all, husbands are nothing but big kids, right?!
For more info about MARVEL'S The Avengers, check the film out on Facebook! We all love Walt Disney and their legacy of providing magical entertainment for children of all ages. Whether you're 1 or 101, I can guarantee that Disney has made your life a little brighter in some way. I have always loved Walt Disney, and so do my children. I guess you can say we're a Disney family! One of my biggest goals is to finally make it to Walt Disney World before I die to experience the magical world of Disney first-hand! My husband used to go with his family every few years and I know these experiences were some of the highlights of his childhood. While Disney is knows for their enchanting tales featuring princesses and lovable characters like Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse, they also have some great motion pictures that are sure to please older kids who may have "outgrown" the traditional fairy tale. (Like my preteen son!) I am excited to let you know that one such movie, "Frankenweenie" is scheduled to be released on October 5, 2012! From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience. My family is very excited to see this latest collaboration between the Walt Disney team and the modern-day legend that is Tim Burton. I know my younger kids will love the animation while my preteen becomes enthralled with the story. So mark your calendars for October 5th! I'll see you at the theater for a frightfully good time!
For more info about Frankenweenie, check this film out on Facebook! I admit it: One of my favorite things to do is spend time online looking for some of the best new fashion finds. I have actually been known to make style "wish lists", often containing items that are worth more than my right arm from makers like Chanel, Christian Audigier, and even Vera Wang. (Hey, a gal can dream, right?!) While I know I will never realistically own that Herve Leger dress I love so much that sells for $1690.00, I can look for similar styling for a fraction of the price. After all, the red carpet isn't affordable for real women. I have found several awesome brands that offer high-fashion, quality pieces at prices that won't have you filing for bankruptcy after a spur of the moment shopping spree! One of my favorite new discoveries is APART STYLE. What makes APART so unique? For one, this is a brand that has been incredibly successful overseas longer than I have been alive! According to my preteen son, I am ancient at the ripe old age of 30. Well, Apart has been around since 1977, so obviously, they're quite the fixture in the fashion world. Trends come and go, (I have a closet full of Ed Hardy clothing and handbags that are now collecting dust that will attest to that fact ) but Apart has remained a constant. There is a good reason for this, too! The folks at Apart have a simple philosophy when it comes to fashion: You never have to sacrifice quality for stand-out style and craftsmanship. Not just a clothing brand, but a style-conscious state-of-mind. A reminder that fashion should feel good and shopping should always be fun and empowering. Apart provides a new one-stop source for women who love contemporary fashion, trends and styling their own looks, but still need to dress for their everyday lives. One of the things I love the most about Apart is that they offer so many different choices, from classy and demure to bold and vibrant, and everything in-between. They provide clothing suitable for most any occasion, whether formal or casual. As a matter of fact, I have my eye on their Sequined Halter Dress for an imformal wedding gown when my husband and I renew our vows and finally have a "real" wedding later this year! For everyday wear, Apart has a huge selection of pants, tops, tunics, sweaters and casual dresses that are absolutely stunning. I especially love their edgier offerings such as their Shredded Leggings. Totally my style, and would be great paired with a cute top and heels for a more casual date night! The folks at Apart pay close attention to the latest trends and celebrity styles, and they make these very styles affordable enough for the average woman to enjoy. One particular piece that stood out to me is the Seychelle Day Dress, since I distinctly recall Kourtney Kardashian wearing something very similar on an episode of Kourtney and Kim Take New York. (Yes, I am a closet Kardashian addict. Don't judge.) But my favorite thing about Apart totally appeals to my vanity, or what little of it I have left! Yep, I am completely lacking in the self-esteem department, but that's something I am working on. Anyway, if you wear, say, a size 8 like me in conventional sizes, when you purchase from Apart, you'd order a 6! That's right! Apart sizing is much more "friendly" than most brands. I wear a size 8 dress (since I have some boobage going on) but I can comfortably order a 6. Jeans? Even better! I wear a 6 and can order a 4! I know where I will be getting ALL of my pants from now on, since this is probably the only way I could EVER say I am a size 4! Here are some of my top picks from Apart. Get a napkin, you just may start drooling! Six All-New Products For Baby in 2012 The Baby Einstein Company’s Latest Toys and Gear Products Help Introduce Baby To The Serene Sights and Sounds!
